the func_ladder brush should not touch the fake ladder.

The ladder you see is not what you climb, and it should not be a func_ladder. What language do you speak?

I'm pretty sure Tom worked out your problem, make your ladder, the part you will see in the game, then you need to make another brush with the ladder texture ( can be found with keyword utility ) and turn that into your func_ladder, see Toms screenie above :)
Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta:
"If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
The Spartan ephors sent back a one word reply: "If".

I'm in agreement here with tltrude and Jack on this one. I had the same problem once and found that when I moved the func_ladder brush away from my visible ladder, the problem went away. Try it again and don't give up so easily. It really does work.
