Curious about everyones opinion on the Spearhead maps...

Post by =Sgt. Daniel R. O*Neil= »

Ive had spearhead for about 4 weeks now. I didnt know the maps very well so in my server i would spectate and watch people and see where they were going when i had time. So Friday i finally played all the maps with my friends in teammatch. Man oh man was i disappointed. All the respawn points are in the same spot. So everybody respawn kills everybody  . I love spearhead regardless  i think EA is a fantastic company with great ideas. This is the best game ive ever played, but these respawn points are crazy  lol. Seemed like EA might have had one zima too many. But i was just curious what everyones thoughts were about the maps that EA produced :?: ....in my opinion i think the mapping community of Spearhead and mohaa do a better job then the proffesionals that get paid :P . What are your thoughts?

I havent played spear head yet but I TOTALY AGREE with what you said about the custom mappers usually make better maps than the EA teams.
They usually dont "look" better, but they play much better. The original DM maps from EA are too F'ing DEATHMATCH'Y!!!! I think it was disrespectful of them to portray WWII as a deathmatch, run 'n' gun, shoot 'em up... pisses me off  Could you imagine if a veteran of the war saw this MOH's gameplay style... im sure he would be very offended. Only with a good custom map and a good realism mod, would he be somewhat pleased with the game (i would think).
I mean, look at "Destroyed Village" that map gets so repetitive... its just a big fricken circle. When I play it I feel like there is no point to it... just to get kills ... how would Mr. WWIIVeteran feel about that? I REALLY think EA needs to get that DEATHMATCH thing outta their heads... this could be a reeaallly good game, but they wont let it.

A lot of the custom maps are always better because they are more linear... not some big circle. I can think of some really good maps that EA should study closely!!! And if you dont have any of them... GET THEM NOW!
MORE PEOPLE NEED TO HOST THESE MAPS ON THIER SERVERS!!!!!!:

ar_bunkeranlage

AC Battlefield

Buzzbomb Raiders

The Final Push

The Seigfried Line

Bridge Crossing

A Bridge Too Far

Post by =Sgt. Daniel R. O*Neil= »

Yeah i agree with you !! I like stuff thats more like 2fort from TFC. Where its defend you fort or castle. Im not in the the deathmatchy stuff so much. The Spearhead maps are a lot like wha tyou want. They aernt a bunch of big circles. But they all have the same respawn spots. So once you make it to the other side. You can sit there and someone will literally spawn right in front of you then you kill them. And everyone does it. Me too. Its like you have to almost. THats the name of the game now. I hope when this SDK comes out. That someone makes a program that will allow people to download maps off the server. Id rather have someone download my maps off me then go to my website and get them because a lot of people dont read my messages that are posted every couple minutes. :(

 No way i dont. I wont get those they aernt mine. I only play the maps that come with the game and the ones i make. I make the people on my server get my maps. yeah....i guess that makes me a dictator, but i dont want to play someone elses map on my server. I want me. A part of myself that i can go "dude i made this map" I like getting feed back from players on my maps, not someone elses. You kinda made it sound like if someone didnt have those maps it wasnt as good a server as it could be. I enjoy making my own because when im playing in it with my friends, i can look at a wall and know what i was thinking when i applyed a texture or a sort of entities in a specific room. We are crafters. It really is an art for some of us. We all get into it. Its like these are my babies, and i dont want someone elses kids on my server (meaning someone elses maps). Not to mention but its easier to get people on my server to get my maps instead of someone elses only because my friends know me. Yeah sure i could put someone elses maps on my website for the regulars to download, but.....its about me...me me me me !!!

dude... so your saying you cant appriciate someone elses work? They make their maps for others to play and enjoy, showoff thier creations, to get feedback, and to have fun playing them too... just like you do want with your maps. I mean... you DO like MOH right? so if you do, then why wouldnt you be willing to play new custom maps..... i think youd be suprised....

P.S. dont get so caught up in yourself, its.... well... "unattractive"

P.S.S. Now Im curious to see your maps... they must be reeeealllly fun  send me a link

thnx

dont be all mad

Post by =Sgt. Daniel R. O*Neil= »

Dont be all mad. Im poking fun at myself for being a dictator you cant attack the attacker thats already attacked himself...thats just a-tacky  In old mohaa i only had two others maps from other people that i had on my server...Arnhem and Smallcity. I ended up getting rid of Arnhem because the spawn points are so so poor  . I enjoy making stuff for myself. Then i wish my friends to play with me on those maps. Because i constantly see things in others that i dont like. Oh yeah the structure is fantastic or maybe even tons better. But ill play for example like stalingrad. I love that map. Its my second home practically. But i didnt apply those textures....i didnt come up with those ideas. I want to make my own. I have no problem recognizing someone elses talents. Oh heres an example this computer im using i built. It was my first killer rig. I put the parts in there. I chose what i wanted. Thats what i like about it. Just because im not using other custom maps doesnt mean i cant relate or be proud of someone elses work. In my maps i tend to add secret passages. Walls that are actually doors and hidden walk ways. Im just about to finish "Le Hotel" so ill post pics of that map in the forum, hopefully tonight :D . Im so glad to almost be done with it because this next map will be the official mascott for -=O*Neil's War=- server. :P :P I have had ideas for that map since the facility

Well, you really made it sound like you refuse to play any other maps but yours... Im not saying that you should throw all those maps on your server... you should just go DL them and play them... join someone elses server and go play them. They are tons of fun, and are a great resource of inspiration for your maps. And besides, there nothing wrong at all with hosting someone elses map too...

Did you say that stalingrad (the one that comes with MOH) is your second home? YOU LIKE THAT BUTTHOLE OF A MAP??? OMG! Ive seen better maps in gas station toilets!!! That map is soooo...... agahgah... bad!!! For one thing.... Stalingrad wasnt a few little apartments all connected into a circle... and the fact that they call it Stalingrad is pathetic... every time a server switches to that map I want to punch my monitor and throw it at the wall...

lol..... i REALLY hate that map

P.S. Wheres a link to your maps?

Sorry i cant figure out how to post an image so heres addy for my announcements section http://myweb.cableone.net/irishpump/Anouncement.htm

Has quite a few pics of "le hotel" which is nearing the finish line. You might now like this one if you hate stalingrad which is weird in my opinion, but you'll love the next one....that one is topsecret shhhh
