Shut the'Longest thread' down pls!

In the begining i thought the idea was a good, nice, silly, funny thread to have a go at, but now I feel that the 'rank-fishing' has gone too far!
Please close that thread, because it doesn't do any good in my point of view.

1. Time waster for some, who only looks for a higher rank. (be creative, do mapping, do modding, thats what were here for)

2. The 'story' has NO meaning and has even started over several times now...

3. Useless info when doing search and you get a hits on that thread, when everything there has no usefull developing information.

4. Takes up useless space in the .map database (mysql)

5. Rank-fishers should be punished with a whip on their backs! (no, not really )

i agree ... it is sorta fun, but people don't seem to care and they have to keep starting it over... not fun!

I agree m0g, we should have a "Longest m0g thread ever" instead, where only m0g posts his wisdom for all to enjoy. Then we can refer all new users to this thread and refuse to help them until they read and understood all aspects of it!

I dont think the rank is a reason to close the thread... rank tells how active you are in posting: it says nothing of the quality. And besides the rank has no actual value in itself... I mean: You cant use the pick up line "Hey baby, I'm a Lieutenant General on .MAP...".

Well, OK... maby you can, if you are:
A: An idiot.
B: A really funny guy.

I prefer spammers posting crap in the "Longest thread" as opposed to them posting crap when I need help or are trying to give it...

why all the fuss about ranks, i'm guessing whoever thought of the idea is now regretting it

people spam all the time, not just to get more posts than anyone else, although i'm doubting that JV guy

if it bothers anyone that much, simple solution, don't read it, surely someone who starts a new post about closing a post is more of a spammer? why not post close the post in the same post?

should i know be labelled a spammer for even reading off-topic?

Too be honest - I can see both points of view - I put ranks in only cause it was something I could do - not to indicate who has "more" experience than someone else......I know who are the guys who help out around here and just because someone has a low post count doesn't mean people don't listen to them (unlike some other forums i know of).......thats the edge that the .Map forums have over others...

I can't close a thread because of bad grammer / spelling - I'd have to shut most of my own threads too
