Why is the model not casting any shadows?

Post by Bjarne BZR »

I'm having trouble with a model that refuses to cast shadows:
Image

As you can see the C47 model casts no shadow what so ever...

How can I make it cast a shadow? I filled it with common/light and common/sunblock... no luck.

Can the fact that I re-skinned the model into static/vehicle_c47_winter_downed.tik ( basically I just added some frost to the texture ) affect this shadow castinf stuff?

I've compiled with both -fast and -final flags, no difference...

Cant it be done with one of these sun block textures in some way? I did a brush in (aproximately) the same shape as the C47... cant I texture that with some magical stuff to acieve the same result?

*********** edit **************

The -staticshadows worked great, not that evil compile time either, as I only have about 15 models in the map :)

Gahh am i typing to myself ??? - You can use the Caulk_Shadow texture instead of the sunblock one to create shadows

Should caulk/shadow be placed where the shadow sould be, or where the shadowing object is?

( Sorry for asking instead of trying, but I really must go to bed now :? )

Where the model is - in the outline of the parts you want to create a shadow

Here is the results of using common/caulkshadow:
Image
Shadows are as I want them , but they also affect the model covered in the brush... So I'll need to put it totally inside the model, or put common/caulkshadow brushes on the ground where I want the shadows...

is that without staticshadows? i think you should put them a little bit behind the plane, so that the plane is between the brush and the sun.

Yep, Alcoholic... the pic above just illustrates the look when you have a common/shadow that is about the same shape as the model.
