Compiling question

Post by Ramah Palmer »

Ok, at a stretch this belongs in this forum so here goes...
I'm in the market for a new AMD processor (2700 Thoroughbred or a 2800 Barton) and I was just wondering if the extra cache onboard the Barton helped at all with compiling times on maps? I heard the Barton was supposed to perform better at number crunching apps but no better at things like games.
So should I go for the Barton or the Thouroughbred anyone?
Mapping is just INCREDIBLY time consuming.

I wouldn't use an AMD processor if thay gave me one for free! But, extra cache can't hurt. Mostly, the speed of the complie is the processor's speed (in Mhz or Ghz) and the amount and speed of system memory--SDRam runs slower than RDRam kind of thing.

Hope that helps.
