Instant FPS boost for all maps with trees!!!

Post by tltrude »

I just discovered this gem in the weather script. It was being used to make trees sway more during rainstorms, but changing the value to "0" makes trees stop moving completely! Place this line under "level waittill prespawn".

/////////////////tree movement stopper/////////////////

setcvar "r_static_shadermultiplier1" "0"

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It may also stop water and other models from moving as well, so be sure to look your map over closely before using it in your final script. Non-moving trees means your map's FPS will get a boost, but it also means less overall realism. So, use it wisely!

Update: I tested it on a bunch of oak trees and stopping the movement had NO effect on FPS. Apparently, the poly count of a tree is what makes it an FPS hog! Well, at least now we know that movement does not harm FPS.
