making walls, floors... 1 long or bunch of short brushes?

Post by Deutsche Dogge »

Hi, i'm making a map, my first, finally...

I'm wondering, for optimization and perfomances, is it better to make walls with many 256x256 brushes or to make one long brush the total length of the wall?

Oh, and i forgot, is it better to make the floor from brushes rather than LOD if it is a straight floor and only use LOD to make some bumps and bomb holes ?

Face count

Post by tltrude »

Well, one brush would cut down on the face count. But it may cause light to leak around the walls that butt up against it. Try it in a copy of your map. One brush for the floor is better, but only if you delete the (now unseen) LOD facets below the floor.

Thanks, i will make one or a few brushes for the floor and make LOD patches get through them at some places.

As for walls i decided to make many 256x256x32 brushes.

Man, i like this board

Too much a good place :)
