The Maginot Line.

Post by Jack Ruby »

Although the Germans just drove around it through the Ardennes Forest I think I can make a decent map from it. The line was a chain of bunkers and gun emplacements that was meant to stop Germany invading France.
We all know it didnt work out that way, but the line was so strong it forced the Germans to take another route. I am thinking I want some bunkers on top of a hill, with ventilation shafts and a large underground complex.

Today I have been messing with the terrain. I only inserted one tiny bunker, in time this will be much larger and more impressive.

should I go with summer or winter ?

That would be: http://www.planetmedalofhonor.com/rjuka ... rrain.html SNakeFluGeL 8-)

And [Spec Ops] Jack Ruby... looking awsome. And you can use trees to make the look complete ( Did not have that pleasure on Vemork Approach  ). Love the winther with lots of shadows ( the middle one ). This is going to be sweet. :D

Bjarne, your Lod tut is really getting some exposure :)

Winter it is, though the snow texture does slow you down when running.

I was kinda planning two almost identical spawns, making players run up the hill to infiltrate the line.

Then an underground system leading to another outside area with flak88's and plenty of trenches and bunkers. I want to make a TOW map but equally it could be an objective.

TOW or objective ?

Well, I'd say an objective. I never play SH ( its just not as good as AA, nuff said. ).

But a well designed AA ToW may be cool.

This is what I say: Do both! ( Mapping is the hard part, scripting it is just icing on the cake ).

Well in a TOW match, heres just an example,

There are 5 objectives,

axis spawn
allied spawn
and 3 switches

When players get killed they can respawn after a random period, I have not seen any flow to the respawning, sometimes can join in 2 seconds sometimes 12. If you blow a spawn then the enemy cant respawn.

The other objectives can change hands, so if you switch it and run off elsewhere an enemy can come back and take control of the switch.

So to win you need to have all switches in your favour and on some TOW maps you also need to blow the enemy spawn.

I love this way of playing, you only have to wait a few seconds after dying, a normal objective you have to watch the fun until someone wins.

I know a lot of people dont like spearhead, me I like it, played the single player missions for half an hour then got bored, one point driving a tank thing I got beat about 5 times, now thats not fun so I didnt try again.

The multiplayer TOW stuff I really liked, cept theres a few things that annoy me, on two maps, Berlin and Ardennes, you can call in airstrikes or set an artillery barrage, you run all the way from your spawn just to where the action is and a random explosion kills you, this is a crap idea, its no fun getting killed by random things, theres enough people with guns to worry about.

Hmm, I was thinking...

It will be based in winter, I am going to build it as a TOW map, I play more often on SH and I know a server that will run my maps so it would be foolish of me to not make it compatible for their server, in time I can adapt it to an Objective for AA.

About the screenies, the Maginot line was a French line of defence so the Allies hold the position, the Germans will be on the offensive.

The middle screenshot is the one I am going to roll with, that screenie will be a spawn, right now I am thinking pretty identical spawns for both teams, leading to a bunker system which then leads out to another overland bunker and trench system, maybe on the scale of the bottom screenshot.

This should make for a varied map, natural beauty on the outside ( apart from machine gun nests, snipers and madmen with machine guns ) and lots of tunnely bunker goodness V2 style underground.

No team will have an advantage, well in theory they wont but we shall see,

it may take me a while :)

Cool, I am now really getting into the construction, working on one of the spawns right now,

Here what I got so far, just working on trenches, bunkers and the landscape, I'm happy with the lighting now :)

Still looking good!

Any reason there is no snow on the bunker roofs?
