Ping plotter

Post by tltrude »

There are some free and trial ping tracing programs you can use to find out where the bandwidth is being choked. One I like is called "Ping Plotter". http://www.pingplotter.com/tucows.html .

Has anything happened to your phone line? I have a dirty/noisey line so I never connect better than 28.8!! I can push my iMac to 33.8 with a custom modem script, but that's it! I have tried various modems, some connected at a lower rate. It seems cable would be my only option if I went broadband. I have had the line checked a couple times and even had it replaced, but nothing changed. I think it's out on the pole, but the telephone company denies it even though I hear static on the line, especially during high humidity. Maybe I should try a second line and see if thats any better. Yes it sux to be a 56ker sometimes, or in my case a 28.8ker :( .[/img]

Ok I will try that ping plotters thing tom. But last night I cleared a bunch of memory up on my computer and defragmented it a few times and tried it today. I got on a game with 6 ppl and it jumped to 999. I tried another server with 1 person on it and my ping stayed low at like 168 and stuff! But then a bunch more ppl joined and it jumped again. It starts to jump when there are like 7 or 8 ppl playing. Well I feel bad for you Herr cause I connect at like a 45 0r 48 or even sometimes a 49 connection. It must suck to only have a 28 or 33 connection. Well I think my problem was I needed to free up some memory which I am going to continue to do and it seems it makes my ping better so I think thats the problem.

click start>run and open command

then type tracert <ip>

let the tracert complete, basically it shows all the hops to get to that final ip,

and check the pings on them, look for ones that are like way above your average ip, for example, heres my tracert of a vsk server in st louis

C:\>tracert 64.37.104.26
