water/explosion

Post by Snake »

I made a canal but, there is a problem with the water. When i trow a granade in the water there is sometimes a explosion but not a water explosion.
Is it because the water is not deep enough?
Here is a picture in mohradiant to show howe deep the water is:

Check that it says: surfaceparm water, in the texture's shader. I don't think it matters how deep the water is, but it might be that the explosion played is related to the caulk brush underneath if the water is too shallow, so maybe you could make a "water-caulk" texture.

brush

The water brush should extend below the bottom of the river. The bottom of the water brush should have the water texture, even though it is never seen. If it is lod terrain, you may need to put a weapons clip brush just below the bottom to prevent grenades from falling through.

LOD

Post by tltrude »

LOD has a bad habbit of letting grenades fall though it--even more so in a water brush. Someone suggested making a copy of the terrain with "clip all" texture and lowering it a bit below the real terrain. I haven't tried it, but it sounds good.

Sounds good, but doesn't work.

You have to cover the lod terrain with brushes, pain in the arse.

maybe somebody could write a program that takes a strip of lod, and converts it into brush format... then we can just texture it with clipall, and im sure that works. 8-)
