Invision Powerboard or PHPBB?

Post by Major Pain »

I am considering to make a website and forum about WW II Games (in general) Now I don't know which forum should be better: Invision or PHPBB.

An example of Invision:

http://www.halflife-2.nl/

An example of PHPBB:

This forum :)

Please post what you think of it. Is it too uncomfortable? Technically too hard? Please let me know why did you choose it, or why you should not choose for the other one.

Or just give an opinion about the subject (WWII Games)

Thanks!

This site uses phpBB 2.0.5, and I like it so far... never really tried anything else.

I'd choose phpBB2 since IB is too much XP-like / childish ;)

Ahh gosh darnit this topic again. IPB is better. It gives more admin controls than phpBB <_< Althought the downside of IPB is the hacking/mods for it, phpBB has more hacks and mods so it's more editable... but IPB has its good number and the proffesionalism and the control.

In the end, IPB will always win. Plus it's easier to skin.

Hmm, neither of these things mean anything to me, I just downloaded Invision, I am in the process of uploading it all, I just created the folders on my server now it says " CHMOD archive_in, archive_out etc...

It has some numbers for me to CHMOD, what the hell is CHMOD, where would I adjust these numbers ?

Anyone able to help me out ?

Cheers.

EDIT: scratch that, I found its just permission for folders and have done what I wanted :) Google is such a good tool.

I voted PHPBB because there's a larger community for it! More themes, mods, blocks, portalmods etc...
and i think the 'look-n-feel' is better with PHPBB ;)

Why not!? Might be good to have one forum for all ww2 games and maybe even about historical things for mappers/modders.

weapons
locations
architecture
names
etc...

Yes, and zip gave a good advice: Let people vote for more topics if needed.

If you have a click and drag FTP browser, just highlight the root folders in your local browser then click and drag it into your FTP server. It can be done in SmartFTP :D
