Buildings

Post by Siadox »

First... I hope no one is getting annoyed by all my stupid questions... Sorry! Second are my problems:

1.) I create my building and apply the textures... But they bleed through. How can I get the interior wall not to bleed through the exterior part? Do I have to create a second brush for the exterior wall texture?

2.) This is more of a compiling question. I'm getting Vis errors and the the such and when I get into my map it's all dark. Since my map is outside I used the sun entity like this:

suncolor 70 70 70
sundirection 90 -60 0
sunflarename sun

It's worked before but not now. The only difference I am doinf on this map is that I didn't apply the caulk texture to everything first. Am I retarded??

Thanks for any help you guys can give!

ok, here we go:

1- no your not getting annoying, thats what this forum is for.

2- you need to 'ctrl-shift' click on a brush to select only that side, instead of all the sides.

3- try using '-90' instead of '90' in your sundirection.

and 4- ALWAYS USE CAULK TO BUILD YOUR STUCTURES, then texture only what can be seen.

Hope some of this helps, l8tr...

And just to add to this post a bit. Make sure that your skybox is completely enclosed. No spaces. Make sure when you are entering things into the worldspawn entity that NO brushes are selected. If you do then you will have to find what brush was selected and highlight it in order to change any values in the worldspawn entity box. So for good practice just make sure before you enter in any worldspawn information that you hit the 'ESC' key first. This will deselect any brushes within the map.

Hey bro thanks a lot! I really hope to give back to the MOH:AA community. I used to do stuff for clans in Rogue Spear back in the day but mapping for MOH is really different! More complicated.

I found the problem with my lighting issue. As you posted it was that I forgot to enclose the skybox. Boy, that really makes a difference! I also went back and applied caulk to everything no showing ingame. Your help made a difference! Thanks!

Just to add, how you were applying texture before (whole brush, all sides) is the way to go for caulk. After your structure is complete then go back and do the visible textures to just the faces by "walking" through the 3d window and selecting the faces rather than the entire brush.

Good luck.
