Help for a new person to mapping
ok this is probbaly a huge newbie question....i use to play a game called Swat 3 and i made a lot of maps for them, so im not completly new to mapping question i have is what the heck do i use to make them for moh. can i use Worldcraft which was what we used for swat 3. what are the files exported as...i see somthing about converting .map files to something. i can make .map files in worldcraft and so im wandering if that is it...ive tried to find some good tutorials for a complete noob to Mohaa mapping but cant find any...could someone help i would love to start making them for everyone....
.map tutorials sections
This could be a very good place to start to learn the basics. Also if you go to the main page there are links for 2 essential files for building maps. Radiant and MBuileder. As far as using another tool for building mohaa maps im not to sure how that will work. Since you have experience mapping im sure you wont have a problem learning it.

well i gave it a once over and kinda tried to do some fiddling around...but i have to say that worldcraft is much better and easier to use then radient...so it will take me a while to get use to it...lol...
also when i open or try to open radient i get this error msg that says it cant open aiident.cfg or something...what is this about it then turns it off and wont let me in to it.

I cant say i heard of this one but maybe one of the cfg files is missing. There is a file called aidialog.cfg in the mohaa tools folder. I dont know if that will cause the problem if its not but worth checking i guess. Also are all the pathways set up correctly? Maybe try searching to see if anyone else had this problem but it would be really helpful to know the file name that is causing the problem is.
Hope you find the answers.

well as for the error that i was getting it has something to do with when i try and start the program useing the shortcut on my start menu. couse if i go directly to the .exe and start it i get no problem....
now is the next one i was trying to put a start entity in my little room and when i right click on the screen like the tutorial says there is no option for player>start. what ever it is...the first one called info isnt even there...hmmm....and as for doing it in worldcraft i think it can be done cosue worldcraft exports to .map file and that is what this saves it in correct...so i think you could do the geometry of the map in worldcraft and then place it in radient to do all the other stuff such as cars tanks entities etc.

sounds very plausible but i have never tried. If it works out and World craft is that much easier to use then i would love to know more about it. As for the info line not showing up that seems to be a real kicker.
Sorry to have to ask you this but you do have Mohaa installed on your pc right? Also are you right clicking in the 2d view and if so they should all be lined up in alphabetical order so info is the 8th one down on that list. Is no list popping up what so ever? Maybe try to uninstall it and reinstall again. I heard that actually does clear up some mysterious errors. Also not that i think this would effect it but do you have SH or BT installed on your machine. Sometimes there is conflicts, i know it sounds silly but welcome to our world.
I hope this somehow helps.

well as for the etsdat file or what ever its called yes i did move it to the main dir. as for mohaa on my computer yes...i just bought it yesterday lol and finished it tonight....and what is SH and BT stand for....
as for worldcraft its a thing used to make maps for half-life or swat 3. its made by valve....if you do a search for valve hammer editor you can read about it and see....i wont know for sure if it works for this or not till i install my swat 3 again couse in order for it to work i have to have it set up useing there exe and some other files just so i can make them...
then i can export the geometry to this program....ill try and uninstall the whole thing again and see if that fixes the problem...but yes i am right clicking in the 2d view....i do get alot of options but when i do that but no where on it is there one that says info....so i try that and see what happens...thanks

Just so you are aware, you can indeed have a shortcut to MoHRadiant.
I have one on my desktop.
The way to get it to work, is to first open it directly from the start menu, go to Edit-->Preferences and at the bottom,
Un-check Load Last Map On Open
Then create your shortcut, and you are good to go.

well now what would loading a map have to do with radient not opening with a ashort cut...ill give that a try tho...just seems weird.oh and i figured out the problem with the entity i had the file in mohaa directory and didnt have it in the mohaa\main.....i was thinking main dir as in the main for the game not the actull folder main...works fine now. i even did the one room thing and went into it....now i just have to get my bearing in radient...man im lost in it...so use to worldcraft...radient does alot more then world craft but world craft is alot easier to move around in and see in...
but ill keep working in radient and see if i can do like i did for swat 3 lol...

u don't believe how i can feel with u. it's not that long since i came from worldcraft to mohradiant and i absolutely felt the same way. but once u know how to move the camera and got some shortcuts, it's getting comfortablesirbum69 wrote:...man im lost in it...so use to worldcraft...radient does alot more then world craft but world craft is alot easier to move around in and see in...
what i still miss is that "in-map-scripting" and some of those cute plug-ins (spiral staircases and so on) worldcraft had... but radiant isn't that bad and this forum is better than anything i ever found for worldcraft and that's even more important than some editing gadgets!
on the other hand, soon enough, hl2 will be available and it's editor hammer will be almost like good old worldcraft - which will cause the same troubles to the Radiant pros
actully hammer is out now... ive been useing hammer for about a year now...its really the same as worldcraft they just fixed a few problems with it...its made by the same ppl they just renamed it....
but im still gonna try and see if i can do the geometry in worldcraft and open the .map in radient...so then i can use radient to do all the other stuff....
also i have a quick question im playing a bit in radient and i like the view that has the 3d window along with the 3 2-d windows but by doing that i lose the texture window and i cant seem to find a way to make it float like the console window....how can i do this...
also while im asking i read that the reason i couldnt get my map to compile was couse i had no skybox..its an outside thing right now...and it said to just build a huge box and do the skybox thing. ok so i did that and it worked....my question is this...normally when i make maps they tend to be big...and in worldcraft if you made a huge box like that omg the poly count would be through the roof...does mohaa not go by poly count or is there another way to portal off outside...in wordcraft we just set a entity and in the options set it to skybox then we would place in brushes all aroung the map textured with a portal texture so that when the game engine read the portal texture it would read it as 2d and wouldnt count it as polys towards the map....
another words it would stop the leaks but you couldnt see it in the game...
hope this makes sence i just dont see why i should have to build a huge box that uses polys just to inclose my outside area so that it doesnt leak into the grey void..?
