outdoor maps are hard to do in mohaa not because of the terain but because of the models like trees etc . A lot of maps have some fog by setting a farplane value . Also efficient structure helps as well as targeted vis leafgroups area portals useing textures with alpha channels chaulk textures no draw textures . You will probably use all those things so maybe do a search . Being able to see a lot of the map at once may be nice but lowers the frames per second a lot .

well ty for the advise but as for being hard i woundt think it would be much harder then what im use to...we had to use alot of entities for tress etc in what i use to do...but im not looking to work on that right now anyways...im justtrying to find out how you inclose an outside map from the grey void as most call it here....ive doen some searches on it and from what i can tell you make a huge box and inclose your map with it....just seems like a lot of poly counts for that....unless you use the caulk on the whole box and that keeps mohaa from rendering the huge box...

The map has to be sealed but you can do it other ways too . Usually you will have do make the skybox for an outdoor map . But if some of the map is under ground or in a building then you can make the undergournd part outside the sky box going through a hole in the bottom of the skybox sealed all around of course . The same for the building if the outdoor area is only at the front of the building you can try to make part of the building outside the skybox . That can be tricky to do but can be done .

right thats the same way as when i mapped for swat 3...anything that was inside only had to be sealed at doorways and windows...only couse in each room you placed a entity called a "cell" and that is what told the game that it was a seperate room. so that it didnt render say the next room which is how you kept the FPS down...but from what im seeing so far in this game its useing this area portal that does that....

was just wandering couse i like to make outside maps...you know like the one in mohaa where you have to go through the town and stuff....no biggie i was just worried about total polys for the map...

i guess my main question is does mohaa worry about total poligons much as swat 3 did...the more polys the map the worse it was as far as fps and ppl just playing it at all.....

Your console window is your texture window.

Just hit T and your console turns into your texture window.

I usually just grab the consile/texture window and put it out of site, down by my task bar so its not in the way of my views.
