Models from Maya?

Post by Bjarne BZR »

Is there any way to export models from maya into a format that suits MOH:AA?

Save as -> run in a coverter -> run in another converter -> load in milkshape -> save as

...is OK, as long as it works.

The thing is I've met this guy that is a modeler. He would love it If I gave him stuff to model, as he needs to practice. So basically he has offered to do any models I may need, as long as he can do them in Maya 5...

I have been looking into this myself. Since I need modern cars for my White House mod. After searching around for hours and hours I found so many free use models out there I was blown away. I found them in .max and .3ds formats as well a several other type (including Maya) all over the place. However they often have way too much detail to even open in Milkshape. And those that do, often have no skins. Or they have them, and I just don't know enough to get them to translate.

I realize this reply does not directly address whether Maya file are translateable. I will keep trying to figure as much out as I can and report it in this thread.

Man I so want to get this to work! I can just imagine that sweet Porche in the middle of a massive firefight!
PM me your tips of the day.

That was what was driving me nuts all night. I could get things that looked fine in Milkshape, but they would either cause a crash on export, or export with no textures.

By the way are you using the latest version? It has Scorpios plugin installed.

After a whole night spend going mad, I think I am going to map for a few more days before trying it out again.
PM me your tips of the day.

The prob remains with 1.6.6a :cry:
I get the shaders and the texture exported to MOH:AA, then it fails.
The shader looks a bit strange to me:

Code: Select all

tigger_tigert
{
      qer_editorimage textures/milkshape/tigger/tigert.tga
      cull none
      {
            map textures/milkshape/tigger/tigert.tga
            rgbGen lightingSpherical
      }
}

tigger_
{
      qer_editorimage textures/milkshape/tigger/
      cull none
      {
            map textures/milkshape/tigger/
            rgbGen lightingSpherical
      }
}
Does this look correct? It fails even if the model is not textured.
