Interesting topic evolved from this thread.

I'd like to add my $.02 in not pointing fingers and nothing to do with the author or any of the files listed on this particular thread.

Generally, I agree with most of what was said above by Slyk, he made some great points from his perspective on mapping. Being an admin for a Spearhead community and 3 servers, I spend a lot of time browsing around for maps that people will enjoy. These maps must perform well, look good, and offer a gameplay experience that is fresh and exciting, allowing gamers to get the most out of their time playing. While some servers rotate their maps every 10 minutes or so, we like to keep them up for anywhere between 20-35 minutes allowing battles to progress and momentum to shift. Being that we do things this way, it is very important for us to attempt to find the cream of the crop to get our gamers to come back for more.

Honestly, just as the mappers have spent rediculous amounts of hours putting the maps together (much appreciated), I have spent a s!@tload of time trying to find and test them. I can honestly say that I feel I have seen almost every single map that has been released, and tested either individually or with members of our staff to get a feel for each. Not to criticize any of the authors out there, but I would have to guesstimate that 95% of the maps released to the public from MOH day 1 have FAILED to capture what a multiplayer map needs to. From my experience, many of these maps have great things going for them, but the overall conclusion is disrupted by negative characteristics.

The majority of the maps I play fail in performance. Sometimes it's a damn shame because the map looks great! Sometimes the map performs well but is either way too buggy or the layout is too small or WHATEVER!...... you get what I am saying. Mappers must take their time and use the resources that are available to them, such as .MAP where I must say you get a great bunch of gamers that are always willing to help. Too bad more people don't come around here.

MOH will die only if people allow it to. Yes COD is coming out however we are not giving up all together on MOH and the mappers shouldnt either. From whatever community MOH keeps, the mappers must attempt to produce a quality map..... spitting out maps of poor quality every other day just doesn't cut it. It only pushes people away. These maps don't have a shot on making it into a rotation of a server dedicated to keeping the community alive and strong.

If somehow you are refering to me I personally could care less what you think. If you dont like it dont play it. People love my work. My maps and mods are the most played in the community. I realize some of my past work needs a lot of work. But this map pack has the very first maps I ever made. And I think I did a great job for a first time out. If you played a new map I made called Backstreets you would see the amazing difference in fps and quality.

As for my future releases, all of my work has been done/tested over and over these days to maintain a quality fps and ironing glitches out. I do this work for FREE. Anyone that wants to gripe about it can go talk to their friends about it in the corner because it will change nothing.
Im making maps for people who want to play my work not for people to bitch about.

wow, I havent quoted myself in a while but just so you know, I was not talking about you. The thread lead to an interesting conversation that maybe I should have used a new thread to post, but I thought it was appropriate.

Mentioned above, this has nothing to do with you or your maps. If you take a look at your past threads, I have shown a bit of interest in some of them. Sorry for the confusion, but the way you snaped at me for my comments, it appears that you need some confidence in yourself!

Apparently none of u wil play this; It was too much work to not see anhy response. Good Bye medal of honor, hello Half Life 2

mostly make this stuff so i can play it but recently I have wanted others to play it.
And then after some kind of well build critics about mapping
he replies
If you dont like it dont play it. People love my work. My maps and mods are the most played in the community
Well me as a simple human being can't understand now.

First you begg people to download, play and give comments or critics over your maps. Then you get serious and well defined comments about mapping and playing MOHAA nowadays
And oops there we get this
"How dare you to judge over my fantastic work attitude"

That's the problem these days if we all could live with some critics, comments or advice we would produce much better work and give the community some nice stuff. But no the fact is that the mapping community is filled with arrogant I'am the best mapper ever dudes.
who loved to tell how fantastic they are.

So read the above post again and you will see they speak about the Quality and not pointing at you.

Now I dont want to make enemies or demean anyone but....

I downloaded city nights final, nice guns shame about the maps.

I know how much time it took to get all those textures in there and I commend you on that effort but a map is not made by new textures alone. I personally prefer a map not on a grid, I understand thats the street layout for most US cities so I guess you didnt have much room for manouver on that. I tested all the guns then had to remove city nights as I lost interest after having a quick run around.

This is not saying theres anything wrong with your work its just a personal choice, YOU CANT PLEASE EVERYONE, so continue to do what pleases you.

We all make these maps and mods and dont get paid for it, we do it for the personal satisfaction of learning something new and hopefully at least some people out there enjoy our work.

We all have different techniques and different taste, variety is the spice of life :)

I could care less now if people who aren't fans of my work even play it. There are enough people out there that play it and love it to shadow the people that dont like it by a mile. I realize there will be people that dont like it or have something bad to say so it's all good. IF you're just looking to crap on me for no reason or are jealous, crap on someone who cares.

Is it so hard to read ?

You can't cook for every mouth and [Spec Ops] Jack Ruby said the
same YOU CANT PLEASE EVERYONE.

But you ask for comment and such and then when the comment
is not in terms of "Marvelous job dude" and "Fantastic piece of work"
You start to say things like:
I could care less now if people who aren't fans of my work even play it.
If somehow you are refering to me I personally could care less what you think.
I only have seen Stalingrad snow once and i don't say anything about a map of your hands. It's that attitude
Well succes with all your pojects but try to open yourself for a little critic and then do something with it.

Wow, that was some real quality cheese up there ^^^^^

I am not pointing my two or five typing fingers at ANYONE.

You have to remember that the Ahz gang here plays Spearhead as well as I do. I reeeeeeeeeeealy wanted CNII on spearhead because I can't stand AA but for five minutes and then I feel like knawing my own leg off is a better way to waste my time (Sorry Strong Bad). I absolutely hate AA, the only time I ever play it is I run through single-player mode wuth a CNXX mod on, then I take it off and never touch it again.

Gen.Cobra, I absolutely love CN, all of them, the Iron Tusk campaign didn't impress me much, 'cause of the AI, (I could never find that SS guy) . S-Snow looks really good, despite I never played it with other peoples.

I have learned from experience, if you want opinions, you have to accept criticism just as much as you accept the compliments.

Mr Dr Professional Ruby said...
YOU CANT PLEASE EVERYONE.
Hmm, that is an assumption, not a fact (no offense). You can please everyone, that just depends on who you think is 'someone'. But then again, it is an issue with the people. If you do this, you satisfy these over here, but if you change that, you get favor from over there.

I have learned from experience, if you want opinions, you have to accept criticism just as much as you accept the compliments. Mistakes lead to perfection, but perfection sucks 'cause you never learn anything afterwards, that is why we will never achieve it with the current human theology and philosophy.

If you want to you can, but I doubt you will. In the Bible, there is this whole chapter about this dude named Job ('nounced J-oh-b). He had alot cool crap that was considered 'rich' in his day, then he loses it all, even though it appeared like he was doin' somethin' wrong, he kept on believing what he thought was right ( what I think  ). Make a really long story into a paragraph, he kept his faith and in the end he got double what he used to have. (There goes Christianity NOT being shoved down your throat  )

Although, double really awesome MOHAA maps....that is alot of map reviews for me :(.

As for CoD, I like MOH better, seems a bit more realistic. Half-Life 2 is another thing, anyone who watches the 20 minute trailer will fall in love with it.

BTW all ^that^ crap came from this (Arro <--) 15 year old.

No one at this time can compare COD--MOH. There are too many aspects of a multiplayer that will decide it's fate.

As for your comment Mr. Arro on Half Life, the vid will make jaws drop....agreed. But you are forgetting that a good majority of the gaming community doesnt want to deal with the storyline and crazy creature land Half Life offers. Who knows how long before it gets modified for those people. That type of game doesnt pop my wood.
