compiling questionsforthe confussed

Ok let me start with that I am sorry but I am a noobie at this. Very frustating for me. Any how I am having problems with playing the very simple and not complex maps that I have made from the great tuteruls that are here. I make the map in radiant and then use mbiulder to compile it. when it starts compiling the maps the dos window pops up and gives it a try but says that there is a bad cammand or file name. then says to push any button to continue. Well I push another button a couple of times and then it does its stuff. then when I try to play my map i cannt even find it. Please any help whould be great. It is hard feeling this dumb. If some one could take the time and write out the steps that I have to take to compile a map the right way that would be all I need. thanks in advance
my email is greywolff2001@msn.com if hat would make it easyer to help me

In the lower left window of Mbuilder put in the word 'pause'.

When you build the map, capture the contents of the cmd window and post them so that we can diagnose the problem.

i had the same prob.. when you set up the directories make sure they are all set correctly for instance i set the directory for the compiler to mbuilder (because i didnt follow instructions and it seemed obvious, but was wrong) so if i remember correctly set the first directory to where you have saved your maps for instance C:\program files\EA Games\MOHAA\main\maps\dm... this directory may vary depending on your OS (operating system) or where you installed mohaa.. ok now for the second directory which i beleive is the one that asks for the directory for the compiler... you set this one to the mohaatools folder... for instance i installed mohaatools (folder that contains moh radiant) to my desktop (on accident) so set this directory to your desktop then into the mohaatools folder... got it? if not then PM me for little bit more detailed instructions.... and finally for the 3rd directory which i beleive is for game directory... which is self explanitory so im not even going to help with that one

so here is a quick reference thingy mabob just to ease your eyes from all that white text...

Game directory (duurrrr...)
Compiler directory (MOHAAtools folder NOT MBUILDER!!!)
Map Source (where you save your maps)

that is it i think... so eh... bye now

Ok sorry for taking so long to get back. Been really busy at work. I tryed it agian. I made a new simple room map. saved it used mbiulder and still cannt get it work or even find my compiled map. But this time I came with info. Yeah buddy.
First I have the dir. for mbiulder as follows:
GAME DIR= C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA
COMPILER DIR.= C:\PROGRA~1\MOHAAT~1\RADIAN~1
MAP SOURCE DIR.= C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\MAPS
with is were I save the maps I make with radiant.

Alright now for the biulder dos windows. When I first try to biuld a map I get this :

c:\windows\tempory internet files>"c:\progra~1\mohaa~1\radian~1\Q3map.exe" -gamedir c:\progra~1\eagame~1\mahaa c:\progra~1\eagame~1\maohaa\maps\first room.map
bad command or file name

c:\widows\temporary internet files>pause
press any key to continue...

c:\windows\tempory internet files>"c:\progra~1\mohaa~1\radian~1\Q3map.exe" -gamedir c:\progra~1\eagame~1\mahaa c:\progra~1\eagame~1\maohaa\maps\first room.map
bad command or file name

c:\widows\temporary internet files>pause
press any key to continue...

c:\windows\tempory internet files>"c:\progra~1\mohaa~1\radian~1\mohlight.exe" -gamedir c:\progra~1\eagame~1\mahaa c:\progra~1\eagame~1\maohaa\maps\first room.map
bad command or file name

c:\widows\temporary internet files>pause
press any key to continue...

c:\windows\temporary internet files>copy "c:\progra~1\eagame~1\mohaa\maps\dm\first room.bsp" c:\progra~1\eagame~1\mohaa\main\maps
file not found - c:\progra~1\eagame~1\mohaa\maps\dm\first room.bsp
0 files copied

c:\windows\temporary internet files>cd c:\progra~1\eagame~1\mohaa

c:\program files\ea games\mohaa>"c:\progra~1\eagame~1\maohaa\mohaa.exe" =set developer 1 =set thereisnomonkey 1 =set ui_console 1 =g_gametype 1 =devmap first room

c:\program files\ea games\mohaa>pause
press any key to continue...

at which point it starts up MOHAA game. When I try to type in the name of my room i get map <map>
I try every thing I can think of. help me please. I am sorry for all the numbing questions.

bad command or file name

Probably the compiler directory is incorrect. Is it pointing to the directory where q3map.exe is in?

Also, there seem to be some major spelling issues:
mahaa
maohaa
widows
:?

Finally, the space in the filename 'first room.map' could be a problem.

I hope you'll get it to work.

ALAS IT WAS ME ALL ALONG

ahhh the frustration is terrible sometimes, but then with people like you all it is alot easier for noobie map makers.
Apparently the problem is in my maps themselfs. Commando gave me a map to compile and itworked and then I made a simple one room map (walls, cieling, floor light player start) and it worked. So then there is hope for me after all. I have resolved to make my first real map. Unfortunatly that means more questions. (sorry guys)
thanks for the help everyone.

ive made a very simple small room with a light....
i get into mbuilder (my directeries are correct) and i select the map and click the 'build map' button, it does its stuff and then gets into mohaa (like i told it to) and the console pops up and says ''canot find maps/mymap.bsp''
ive tried heaps of tuturials and things but none can help
if somone can email me at: 'mjkids@iprimus.com.au'

Type 'maplist' in the console and find your map. It's probably in the dm or obj folder. You can also change the line that starts your map in Mohaa in Mbuilder.

ive typed in 'maplist' in the console, searched around in the list and it wasn't there :(

it usualy says couldn't find maps/mymap.bsp
but it also says something weird while building the map:

********error*******
Match token < ''{'' > failed to line 2 in file scripts/mr_gear.shader

You have a custom .pk3 file with a corrupted shader in your main directory. Therefore q3map won't compile the map and it won't load in game. So remove custom .pk3s and you should be fine ;).
