FloatPlane: Bad Normal. Any tips on how to fix this?

Post by Axion »

I'm at a loss at what to do about it. My map was compiling fine two days ago, and now all of a sudden this error keeps popping up when I recompile. My map won't load now, and I'm almost certain that it's because of this error.

If anybody can give me some advice, I would really appreciate it, because I've already put in too much time and effort into this map to just give up or start over from scratch.

*sigh*

trace back on what you last added, the biggest problems i use to get was when i used other ppl prefabs, they would always give me dup planes etc, best thing is never use a prefab, just make your own. i had a map once 99% complete and used a prefab, had floating planes that ment i ended up with what looked like concrete steps floating in my map, deleted the prefab that i added and all was fine, but it had taken me two days to realise that was the problem....

Yeah, I already looked at that thread, but the advice given there doesn't seem to help.

I've already tried deleting the few prefabs I had, as well as other brushes that I thought were suspect, but the error hasn't gone away. I'm not sure what is causing it because nothing really new has been added to my map since it last worked properly. I recall reading about a way to recover older versions of a map by doing something with its .min file (or something to that extent), but I'm not entirely sure.

I also downloaded that plugin, but I don't know how to use it. Do I just put all the files in my MOHAA Tools folder?

After you get it unziped, the plugins folder goes in MOHTools folder. Then in the editor you will see it under the plugin menu.

THe cause could be an infinite brush. Zoom out as far as possible and do SHIFT + LEFT CLICK out in the grey, not in the grid. If you see the lines that say its 20000 x 20000 x 20000 hit backspace key, also using that plugin will help a bunch. Keep trying that untill they're all gone,

Sounds good; I'll go try that.

Thanks a lot for the advice!

Been there before myself> I had a brush that must have been part of my skybaox. It streched so far off the grid that I could not find it until I used the "select touching " option on a very large brush. Good luck!
PM me your tips of the day.

Yeah if there's any brushes way off the grid that'll cause it. Go round 'em up and bring 'em back in.

Well, I used the plugin and found an infinite brush, which I removed. When I compile now, the Floatplane error is gone, but my map still won't load. It looks like I have a lot more detective work ahead of me.

Hmm what kind of errors are ya getting, type "logfile 1" in the console and get the log and copy it and paste it here and I'll check it out.

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty dense sometimes with things like this. Could you explain to me in detail what I need to do to get a log file?

ooops  Once MOH is started go to the console (press ~) then type "logfile 1". Start up your map, then once it doesn't load exit out and go into your moh folder and find a file named "qconsole.txt" or something like that. Hang on I'll be right back

yep that'll get you a log file, should be in /mainta/ (spearhead) or /main/(AA) or /maintt/ (Breakthrough, I think thats right). Just look into what ever one you were using. Then paste it here.
