Please Help Me

Post by Goul »

Hi im new at map making, and frankly i suck at it. I would like to know how to get the 3D window, it looks easier than this stupid 2D one, also how do you make walls? i did what the utuorial said but all it does is like add a floor on top of my floor...

First off, welcome to the forums! :D

Secondly, don't say that you suck. No one is good at mapping right off the bat; it takes a lot of dedication and study, and people are still coming up with better ways to do things. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk, right?

I don't understand your question about getting a 3d view, but I think I can help you on your wall making. It sounds to me like you aren't changing your 2d view when you construct them. Use ctrl + tab to easily swith between your top, front, and side views to make sure you are making them correctly.

Guys i shouldn't have posted that. As i shortly figured out everything by trial and error rather than the tutorial, after i atleast figured out the different view, i went back to the tutorial. I dont suck either..lol.. i just am new and your right you have to learn to crawl before you walk. just like you are bad before your good. Anyway...new problem. I have looked everywhere (not really :) ) but i cant figure out now to get the .bsp by compiling. I get a .bak file, but no .bsp. I also read a FAQ and i figured out i need a spawn...err...how i do that? is that the entity "worldspawn" if it is, how do i use it because it says cant do entity " worldspawn " or something like that...help would be supa cool

Well first off you don't need any commands necesarilly in the 3 stage boxes

Look in the same folder as your .map it'll be there

Also if this doesn't help put this in your 3 stage boxes
BSP:
> C:\bsplog.txt
VIS:
> C:\vislog.txt
LIGHT:
> C:\lightlog.txt

This will spit out log files in the location you specify open them up and post them here, and I should be able to find the problem.

Chin up, there are no bad posts, just bad maps. We see these same questions all of the time and most of us asked them when we started.

The radient program is just unlike almost all programs out there, it's not well documented (at least for mohaa), and generaly harder than winning against a server full of hackers.

Try to search the forum and read read read. Most of the time when I post I figure it out myself before I get a reply, but I post anyway. Just helps you not feel alone.

GOOD LUCK M8!
PM me your tips of the day.

It works very well if it is set up right. Post all your setting for it (copy the little windows). Make a log file of the bsp compile, as posted above.

It may be your map that is bad. It has to have one info_player_start.
