Hello, and welcome to .MAP.

To make a barrel, you can either make a 12 (or so) sided brush and texture it with a barrel texture, or make a brush the approximate size you want the barrel, and go to Curve-->primitives-->cylinder. Then, with the cylinder still selected Curve-->cap-->Inverted endcap.

You can make anything breakable when shot. You can create your brush, texture it as you like, and then right click in 2D view and make it a func_window or func_crate.
Then when shot, the brush will simply disappear.

A small crate that can be jumped on easily is created by sizing it properly. If a crate is 48 (56?) grid tall or less, the player can jump onto it with no problem.

These are just the simple ways.....there are other ways to do these things, and I am sure others in the community will go into further detail about these things.

Make a standard 6 sided cube brush, then with it still selected press ctrl+8 and it will becoma an octagon shape. You may then need to resize it to fit.
PM me your tips of the day.

8 sided brushes are easy to make taller but hard to make wider unless you look at it in the top view and press L on the keyboard for free scaleing . when it turns green move the mouse up or down and it will rescale itself larger or smaller . When you are done press L again to exit scaleing .

barrel

You don't really have to make the brush barrel-shaped before it is turned into a patch mesh cylinder (curve menu). But, you should make it the same width, depth, and height as you want the barrel to be. A good size for a barrel is 40 X 40 X 64. By the way, 64 is the max jumping height.

But, you don't have to make the barrel yourself, unless it is special. There are two "prefab" barrels at the Nemesis tutorial site that are perfect! Here is the address where you can download them--and much more.
