Favorite map?

Is there a poll any where (on the web) about the most popular map? Or maybe the one that gets the most game play? I am interested to know what people think is considered a good or great map for game play. Those of us mapping may be consumed with that aspect. Most players don't read forums like this. My son, for instance, loves to play on-line but has no interest in mapping. He was my online tester of my maps until he was deployed to ... (sorry can't tell ya). He always beat the s#!t out of me, but gave me suggestions how to play better and how to improve my maps.

Just what makes a good map? Mapper's enquiring minds want to know.

An update... Just from general observation the most active AA server map is 'obj_team1' and Spearhead is 'Malta'

Do you mean which original map is the best? If thats what you mean V2 would be my pick but if you mean ne from this site, bazzar was pretty good. I dont have spearhead so i cant comment there.

No, I mean any map. The only close second to an original that I see is another original.

We aren't geting even close I'm afraid. Thats why I ask.

The thing is there are some good user made maps out there - its just try ing to attract peoples attentions to them - hence why we started map reviews here - Vervions was good, V2 was prob my fav map in AA - and U don't have SH

Stalingrad is my favourite, because it runs smoothly and the action is very intense.

I never play objective maps because you can't respawn and I don't have the skills to stay alive for more than a couple of seconds.

I hate the Snowy Forest map because you can't see a thing there. The Crossroads is very bad too, very bad framerate and too many sniper spots.

Good custom maps are out there, but as said, few servers have them in their map rotation.

I love stalingrad like most do, algiers, france. I love maps like crossroads but the problem is its just one straight line. So youre fighting and fighting and you get to the otherside and its like..."errr ok boys lets head back" So in a way i think maps that are somewhat circular like stalingrad or france get the most play. I think maps like v2 and stuff are great for objective maps because youre fighting for something. In spearhead i think i love berlin the most. Everything is destroyed soooo much room to snipe. Not to mention in berlin because the map is sooo huge i have time to tell my team a tactic or maybe warn someone of an exact location of a baddie.

Crossroads is pretty simple buts its not like its easy. Its a great map for snipers, but definatly not for newbies cause its easy to get lost in that hotel, i always laugh hard when you watch a newbie try to find his way out. Anyways its hard for the Axis to destroy the bridge.
V2 is definatly the best map all around. Snipers can join the axis and snipe stupid ppl who dont duck coming through the control room and SMG/Shotgun lovers can run as fast as they can to the start to try and kill all the allies.

V2 Is deffinately a Very Good map - If I could see an update of one of the originals it would be the hunt because I think the allied spawn/start location is terrible

Ya i love standing on the railing on the far side of the map and sniping ppl coming through the control room.

Stalingrads a good map. you can play on it with any weapon and still get a good score. i dont like V2 tho. i just join allies and throw nades where the axis run at the start and kill about 4 at once. then i just wait to die as i always do on that map.
flughafen is the best SH map, but the objective is pretty pointless. why do the allies have to risk their lives just to let 2 planes out some hangars. all they do is just fly off, they dont even crash. how would that help the allies at all?

My personal favourite at the moment is the night version of the Tunisian map pack. It's a very simple map and it can be great fun so long as its not played on too big a server.

I was impressed with this because the terrain between the Allied spawn and the town is really well done, no DV syndrome. ie the bomb craters you always get stuck in round tank alley and the back of the church!

Of the original maps, I like The Hunt best out of the OBJ maps and Stalingrad is still a killer TDM map

Let's bring this post back alive! I don't know too many people that really like Omaha. It is my first choice most of the time for an objective map (which are my favorites) when I log on. It's one of those "You either love it or you hate it" maps I've found. But, if I had to chose one for the whole schmeal, I would also pick V2 Rocket Facility. Axis and Allies have good spawn points and the objectives are a challange at that for both sides. Allies have to work together to get there, and Axis have to watch their backs because of the many approaches to them. Don't like Spearhead much. I think it's because of all the problems I have in finding a good server and then getting on a server and being bombarded with voting. Sheesh, if you want to play a certain map, you log on. If you don't, go somewhere else but don't call a vote when I've got some Axis looking down the barrel of my rifle! Just one of the things I don't like about Spearhead. Eye of the Needle is a good custom map for me. Although, if you are good, you can snipe from either side of the bridge.

I like the objective maps the best and of the original obj maps, i gotta go with The Hunt. My favourite obj map is Normandy Bridge, we play it all the time on our LAN and even though there are some texturing problems, it is the most wide open and at the same time action packed map there is. Besides, I really like infinite respawn, and I don't enjoy omaha very much (the choke point in the bunker makes it almost impossible for the attackers to get past a coordinated defense).

Of the original dm maps I like stalingrad, even though I don't play it any more because the tense situations it puts me in gives me the shakes before I even start playing (maybe the problem is that on our LAN everyone goes sniper on that map). Of the user created dm maps I like hide and seek 2, if only because of how different that map plays. There really isn't any significant cover, the only thing that stands between you and hitting the other guy is finding him.
