But, we didn't really solve the problem. The best way is to have the floor brush sit inside the walls--rather than having the walls sit on top of the floor brush. If it is only a small spot, use a crate or rubble to hide it, or brushes outside. You can also change the "sundirection" for your map.

If your terain stops at the wall then light from outside won't shine on it . When the game lights a brush or terain it lights the whole surface from the source . When you make rooms they should have their own roof and floor that stop at the walls . If one brush is the ceiling for two rooms this will happen , the game is lighting the surface of the brush even if it goes over a wall .
