Sky and player starts

Hi people,

I have some problems in my maps (they are not real problems, I just don't know how to make some things), and they are:

1 - How do you make the sky? I know how to make brushes and aply textures to them but when I apply a sky texture istead of spreading all over the brush it multiplies itself lots of times.

2 - How do you make a sun?

3 - How can you specify (in a dm map) diferent starting points for the players. And in an tdm how do you specify where do the axis and the allies start? (I know that for one player start you use info>player>start but how can you do it for more than starting place)?

4 - When I compile my map and run it the game says (in the console) that i should create a _precache.bsp or something like that. How can I do it?

5 - This last question is an easy one. Where are the ladder textures? Are there any special ladder textures ?

I know these are really dumb questions but please help me.

in reply to 1 and 2 check out http://www.mohtut.8m.com/ i do know but he explains it well.
in reply to 3: u have to have an info player start to get u into the map after that u can select info player allied and or info player axis , u can add as many of these as u like ...these will be your respawn points.
4: umm .not sure as im a newbie! too lol
5: as far as i know there isnt any textures just for ladders,just find yerself a wood/metal texture u want,theres none for just ladders.

1 - as for nem's tuts on the skybox, make the brush using the 'caulk' texture and fix the overlapping brushes after you hollow it out, and you should only need to apply the sky texture to the inside faces that would be visible in-game. the texture will look odd (the texture will be tiled along the brushes), but it will look ok in-game.

3 - u dont need the info/player/start for dm/tdm/obj games, just the deathmatch or, allies and axis

4 - the precache is a .scr file, check the .scr files in the pk3's of other maps to see how this is done. there is a lot more that you can do with these. way too much to answer here.

5 - there was a ladder texture fix by Thor, but it was on the modding theater which shut down. I may have that at home but I'll have to check and get back to you. You can just make a ladder out of brushes and texture them(don't put the rungs of the ladder too close together or something bad will happen). the 'ladder' function comes from the pink texture in the 'textures/common' folder called 'ladder'. this is applied to a seperate brush in front of your ladder.

#4 the easy way

make a file called yourmap_name_precache.scr (text file renamed)
add this line
exec global/DMprecache.scr

save it in the same folder with your map
