hide/show a corona

Post by wacko »

i want the script to 1st hide and later on show a static/corona.
i gave it a targetname ringcorona and in the script i put a $ringcorona hide but just get a NIL listener error. Is there a way, or even to change the scale by scripting?

hey krane! where are u gone? i just answered your post and when I came back... :shock:

i tried this before...
made a script_model with targetname and
model / static/corona_orange.tik this one went off to coordinates -19999... anything. Now I tried model / corona_orange.tik which stays where it belongs, but isn't shown ingame. Shouldn't it be visible by default or do i have to do something in the script to SHOW it?

this is a console error saying that there is no entity that can execute the command.

about the hide/remove: in fact I can't do anything with a corona by script: I tried to bind it to another (moving) script_object, but it doesn't follow. I'm sure that a script_model would be the solution, but model/corona.tik doesn't work, and model / static/corona_orange.tik does qalmost crash my computer :roll:

I think I have a solution for your problem. Try making a script-origin and giving it these values-

model static/corona_reg.tik
targetname corona

And then in your script if you use the command $corona hide, it should work. I think. :)

A corona is the faintly colored luminous ring that appears around a light. They are usually only visible through a thin haze, and are caused by a diffraction of light from suspended mater.

In Layman's terms, a corona is the other glow that you see surrounding a light when it's lit.

No, there are more. Under static ==> corona, you also have choices of orange, regular, and utility versions in addition to the red one found under the fx menu.

I'm guessing that you if you tinker around with the .tik file, you could make a version with any color that you choose.

Thanks, Axion!! A script_origin is MUCH better than a script_object, especially because it's working now!!! Thanks, m8 :D

I'm just happy that I'm actually dispensing good advice in the scripting forum. 8-)

This is what I do and the blink thread just hides and shows it

local.mark = spawn script_model
local.mark model "fx/corona_red.tik"
local.mark scale 50
local.mark.origin = self.origin
local.mark thread blink

Sorry, m8 :oops:

My tip was to make a script model, but I tested myself and realize it was not working, so I deleted my reply...

Can we use a script origin with model key? Cool 8-)

You can give any entity a model key, like even a func_rotatingdoor if you'd want ;)
