Ok, I have this map right? When I add everything (sky light and player start) and compile I get this "Cannaot find .bsp crap. Ok, I follow the directions and delete all custom .pk3s out of main and maps. I try again, still cannaot find .bsp. WHY??????? I don't get it I've saved it as a few other names but nothing works, can you please solve my problem???

you have an error and the map is not compileing . Are you useing mbuilder ? Is the path to your map right? can you tell what error you are getting . If you are useing mbuilder then set a pause after one of the complile stages and look and see if you can see what the error is .

yes I am using MBuilder, and all the paths are correct because I can compile other map. When I do complie this is what it says:

ERROR: LoadPortals: NumVisBytes xxxxxxx exceeds 2097152

The visdatasize has grown out of hand. This is caused by a too high number or poor layout of structural brushes.

SOLUTION: Turn some brushes into details to solve this problem.

Did you try to look this up in the compiling errors/solutions topic? Your answer was on the first page this whole time.

limits

Post by tltrude »

Yep, the limit is 2.09Mb and you have 8.2Mb of vis data. Must be a very large map with no detail brushes. Start by makeing all steps detail, but you'll need to make a lot more brushes detail to reduce it by 6Mb.

The hot key for making brushes detail is Ctrl + Shift + D. And, the hot key for filtering out detail brushes from your view is just Ctrl + D. Try not to make the walls, floors, and ceilings of rooms with no windows detail--you can seal those rooms with common/area textured brushes in the doors.

Curve patch and LOD can not be detail. And, the sky box must not be detail.

I would rather see that word spelled out completely than the "F*&k" that I have seen all too much on another thread. Anyone with the intellegence of a vegatable or higher knows what that means.

Well not to stay off topic much longer but F*** or F*&k is better than saying it. Any censoring by anyone is a show of respect not stupidity.

OK, sorry if I stepped on some toes. I will leave it at that. Although I would not be offended if ANYONE said that even around my children.

No biggie, we're all freinds here :D

And I'm sorry if it sounded like I was saying someone was "stupid", because that was not how it was meant.

Anyway lets leave it at that and go on with mapping :D
