Ladder totally disappears

Post by echo_rancid »

I made a ladder on the side of a bridge. When I check the bsp in the game it does not show up. The brushes are missing no where to be found, I cant climb either. I made it so the brushes stick out a ways to and still no sign of any brushes. I dont know where it is, I made the ladder detail but that shouldnt do nething. I switched textures so it couldnt be that. Im confused...

dont have a page to upload too :( , but ill describe it. In radient I built the ladder up the side of the bridge, starts in the water and ends at the top railing of the bridge. I made all the rungs and side beams detail. Then I put a ladder texture in front same hieght and width, and out a bit from the ladder itself but still touching the ladder. I add the angle of 360 as well, and im sure thats correct. It is perfectly visable in radient. Then I compile it, all three steps. Go into moh, type maplist in console, select my map.bsp. It loads and i walk over to the bridge. From every possible angle there is not sign of the ladder. I go to the top of the bridge jump onto the railing and I can get onto part of the ladder texture, the climbing action down but not for long, but there is still no sign of the ladder. I tryed changing the size of the brushes, the textures, detail, no detail. I originally had no side beams to the ladder just the rungs but i added those so that wasent the problem. Ive tryed everything. Im thinking it has something to do with either the fact its coming out of the water or maybe it is touching my lod terrian. I really dont know though :? .

Here is a screenshot wacko.

Image

On the side of the bridge there is a area between the two archways where the ladder should be. You can see the beams that are the sides of the ladder but there are no rungs. Is the ladder texture supposed to touch the rungs? Cuz i have it touching just a little part of the front of each rung. I can't climb this niether. Just the sides of the ladder appear :? .
I dont know how to get you a screenshot of radient, sry, maybe you know. But i explained it well above. Thanks.

Shot is to big for the site axion, how do i make the screenshot smaller so it will upload successfully???

okay, i thought jpeg is jpg... it's just that web browsers usually can just display RGB-jpgs and gifs, no Targa Images (tga).

Link button to the recycling bin probably is too big (look down)

When you do a func_ladder, is it only done to the ladder texture? Or to the all rungs, the sides of the ladder, and the ladder texture?

You'll have to build the ladder sidebeams and rungs (where I prefer a brush with one face having a rung texture and the other faces with common/nodraw) AND you have to add a separate brush in front of the ladder with that common/ladder texture on all faces. Then you turn just this last brush into a func_ladder. This will result in the visible ladder brushes being pure decoration (and a hint where to climb  ) and the func_ladder brush being a working (but invisible) ladder.
