I'll mess around with that a bit and see how it goes, then. Besides, I can always just make a case that it's low mountain fog.

rail gage

Post by tltrude »

Maybe you could move the rails closer together and adjust the car wheels to match. Is the road bed patch mesh?

I've considered moving the rails in, but then the scale of the train just doesn't look quite right. Perhaps a custom texture is the way to go.

And to answer your question, no, the rail beds are just caulked brushes with the tops textured.

decal

Recently, I learned how to make decal shaders that work on a flat patch mesh brush. They automattically offset the decal texture from whatever brush you embed them in.

Do you think that method would be easier than making a custom texture? I'm not about to try and fix anything yet, so I'm just considering my options.

Looking good, dogg; great revamp of an old project, eh
Can't wait to get back into the stuff myself once I get out of this place. I quit drinking the other day... it'll save me loads of cash. It makes me sad now when I think about how much I've spent going out drinking. What a loser, right? Need to save for that PC when I get home so I can map instead of drink... then I'll be friggin' cool (least I think so).

Hey! It's good to see that you're still alive. I haven't heard from you in a couple of weeks. I'm glad that you like what you see. I've really improved a lot over these last few months. When you get back we'll have to do a collaboration together, ok? :D

Sure thing, I've been just itching to. I'm making a hobby of learning to program when I get back, and I'm already trying to get the language for this down while I'm here. I've been dreaming levels... so many buildings here in Tokyo... I try to figure out how to make just about everything I see work in a game. Got some clean ideas... just wait.

Yeah, and why don't you mail me sometime, buddy?

I finally decided to just go ahead and and choose the easiest solution available, which was to simply rescale my train tracks to become flush with the shadows on the track textures. It looks a lot better now, and it only took me about twenty minutes to make everything fit.

Here's a quick update-

Some things have taken longer than expected, but everything is running smoothly. I've been busier than usual lately, but I can guarantee (!) those of you who are interested in this map that a Beta Preview will be out by Tuesday of next week. I hope that some of you will check it out and leave me some feedback as to how it plays and looks.

I've completely revamped a few sections and retextured a lot of areas. I've also created a lot of custom textures, which I think look pretty damn cool. 8-)

I'll post some more screenies later on.
