Mod name & punishment election :)

Hi,

I'm finishing my new script mod which is to prevent players from camping. It works very well, but I can't decide what name should it bear 8-) and what punishment should be done to the campers. These are my propositions:
Camping for 30 secs - warning (yellow card :D ).
Camping for 45 secs - final warning (red card :twisted: ).
Camping for 1 min - camper's death :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: !!!
3 deaths for camping - move to spectator.
3 moves to spectator - kick in the butt :twisted: .

What do you think?

This is just my opinion and in no way to knock ya mod in any way,,,but i think camping is just part of the game,,i myself dont do much sniping,,im more of a run around and see who i can kill kina guy lol,,,but i have alot of respect for those sniper only guys ,,ya know the ones who patiently hide and wait for the kill,,ive always thought it makes the game much more interesting myself,,,just my thoughts lol

Yep, but remember that this mod will also get rid of 'hangovers' (you know, these who have ping of 999 and are sticked on their spawn in the middle of a jump and don't move). And I don't know if you read my post carefully. You can camp without consequences for 59 secs. 8-)

I think it's hard to make this very effective... most campers don't sit exactly at one spot, but generally move around a little bit...

The script checks if a player moved out of an area of 64 quake units every 15 seconds. If he didn't, his camping time increases. A warining is given after 30 and 45 seconds and after 60 the player is killed by a mine explosion spawned at his origin. Now that Gold mentioned snipers. This is a question for you, jv_map: is the weapon that a player is carrying stored in the .gun property, like it is in AI's case? If it is, I'm going to make it "settable" via RCON for admin whether to take snipers as campers. I personally think that would be more justified, do you?

Hmmm... what to feel about this?

Camping ( that is staying in one place for a long time ) is not always a bad thing... I get so sad when players call other people campers in the wrong setting.

Let me explain: A bad camper is an Allied player that stays at respawn in V2. A good camper is an Axis that does not charge head on in The Hunt... you get the difference. Calling the defending team campers are just plain stupid.

So to your script:

- I like the idea. And as I feel bad camping is location dependant: I'd suggest spawning one or more triggers that surround the "bad areas" ( like the Allied spawn in V2 ).

- I also saw a cool thing that you could use when I played the MOH:AA Freze-tag mod for the first time yesterday: It said "XXX frozen at YYY" where YYY was something like "storage room" or "bridge" ( it was the "Bridge" map ). I think your idea of hurting/killing the camper is bad. The camper problem is worst ( in my mind ) when a single Axis is left, looking for a single Allied that is camping on the other side of the map... and you just want to strangle the camper with your bare hands because he is stealing your prechious play-time. So just giving away the position would be enough ( and besides: you don't take away the pleasure of the member of the opposite team kutting his caming head clean off with a well placed SMG burst :) )
I think the best "CampBuster" mod would just give away the location of a camper after say... 20 seconds in a "bad" location and after one minute in the rest of the map. The mod would print "Scouts report an Allied camper in the Allied spawn" ( or something like that ). Thats my 2 ?re. ( 2/100 krona ).

Summary: Don't kill them, just expose their location. And faster in the "bad" locations.

if u went through the bad locations and put triggers there it would be cool. the currrent state is a little shaky. ive been sniper only for a week now (still suck) and i dont know waht i would do w/o camping. i vote for bjarne's idea.

I think it would be neat to spawn a nade thrown in the area of the "camper". I personally would move if I heard a marble rollin around. Plus it can help give away his position as well. However I dont know if it's possible, so just a suggestion. :D
Otherwise I would support Bjarne on his idea.

I was thinking about the same thing, but that would make the script map-specific. Nevertheless, I'll try to do something like that.

I didn't think of that, but actually it's a great idea! I just hope Mefy will permit me to use his location thing 8-)

im that kinda guy who sits waiting 4 ppl 2 move into my deathtrap . however if an area doesnt have a lot of traffic i switch 2 hunt mode and find my preys :twisted: .i think its much more fun watching multiple targets from a single position and trying 2 kill em all.i also htink its fun knowing that some1 somewere is pointing his rifle at u and getting ready 2 tickle u with a bullet in the head :wink: .
but i suppose 2 much camping can make a game suck,however most campers (including me)dont usually sit in an easy 2 get 2 place ,and usually its very easy 2 defend so exposing me wouldnt really help .when u play alot in the map u should know where those camping areas are,so if u get shot once u know where 2 go 2 avenge urself.i think the camper should be killed if he stays 2 long.

one more thing,if i know that ur mod existed on a server and 4 some reason i decided 2 play i will usually move alot ,or change my place making me(the camper) harder 2 find
