magic cloning brushes
ive been making a map for a while now ,and ever since i started i find brushes that apparently clone themselves in the same place without me choosing them.i find them when i select a brush and when i click a second click 2 deselect it increases its red color instead of getting deselected .what causes this so i can avoid it in the future?

Brushes are usually cloned when you have one selected and use the undo command.
I reccomend that you download Rogue's Brush Repair plugin and use that to remove any duplicate planes. Here is the link from tltrude's topic-

Undo, You have ruined so many projects in this manor i will make it my mission in life to make sure everyone knows of your evil wicked ways!!!
Yeap my friend you too have found out first hand how evil
the undo fucntion is. Whats that you dont believe me? Them make a test room select everything then deselect it and hit undo. You will have a second room exactly where the first one is hence your troubling double brush problem.
At least that is one possible explination.

The ramp thingy makes ramps.
And if the duplicate brush remover isn't working for you, you're just going to have to search around and delete the cloned brushes manually.
Persoanlly, after every hour or two of work that I put in on a map, I use the plugin to search for evil polys and duplicate brushes, eevn if I know there aren't any, because it's always better to be safe than sorry.
Also make a point of it to use those features whemever you use load a prefab that isn't made by you or a known mapper, because a lot of prefabs contain errors in them and will lead to other possible errors in your map later on.

Well, it doesn't always work for me, either. I think that it only deltes the ones that are occupying the exact same space as the original brush. If they've been unknowingly moved or reshaped, you're going to have to track them down.
To make the tracking process easier, you could make the majority of your brushes detail (all the ones that you know are error free), and filter them out of sight, so you would have more room to search, and prevent you from accidentally deleting anything that doesn't need to be deleted.
It sucks, I know. I've been there before plenty of times.

Well, if your problem brushes are detail, you don't want to turn anything else to detail, then. I was assuming (and you know what happens when people do that), that your cloned brushes were structural. Sorry.

Yeah, sorry about getting your hopes up.
I'm sure someone smarter than me will come along and have some better ideas.

Rogue
It gets rid of "Duplicate plains", not duplicate brushes. I'm not sure what causes duplicate plains, but I also use the plugin from time to time--it removes them if found. You will see warnings about them in the compiler, too.
One way to search for dupicate brushes is to place a large brush around your world and hit "select inside". Everything will get highlighted and you can look around the map for the bright spots--filter out lights, entities, and stuff first.
Ps: Try that plugin on a decompiled map! Then go away for an hour--because there will be thousands of duplicate plains!!!
