Door tutorial

Post by ziptie2k2 »

Does anyone know if there is a REALLY in-depth door tutorial out there?

I see so many ?'s on this subject, and all door tut's that I have found are basic and only tell you how to create one, but not how to make it work the way you want. After many agrivating hrs of searching posts, compiling, and redoing this s**t I have got most of it right. But unless we can put one of these really good tuts together, we will see a neverending amount of ?'s on this subject. I would do it myself, but I think I am still stupid on the subject.

This tutorial map does not have a step by step readme, but the .map file and a text version of the script come with it. To find out how one of the doors work, just open the map in the editor and look at its properties. Some things are done with scripting, so you can study the script to see how they were done.

well,a step by step tut would help alot 4 those lazy bastards .....like me .besides usually i dont understand everything in the tut right away,so when i come 2 a problem id like 2 open the readme file and read the part i didnt understand again ,but if it was a map it would take more time 2 understand and check out everything in it.thats my opinion anyways

In the time that it took for you to type that, you could have ran a search. :P

I've just recently switched from 56k to Cable myself, so I know where you're coming from. I'd seriously try to switch to a high speed service if I were you, because it just makes surfing the Internet and downloading stuff a lot more enjoyable.

Well, I didnt mean for this to turn into a pi**ing match :D However, I think M&M has a more valid point. I think it would simply be much easier and less time consuming if it were in the tutorial section. Oh well I guess if you want to do something right you have to do a little extra work instead of relying on other poeple. :D Maybe once I get all this figured out for sure I'll see if I can do a tut on it.

I suggest using the Wiki on my new Rjukan project site ( still beta, but the Wiki is final ): http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/%7Erjukanpr ... -index.php
The Wiki is basically a web site that everyone can edit. Not by uploading new versions of files via FTP, but by just klicking "Edit" and editing it directly in the browser. GREAT for growing tutorials together.

Just register and go to the Wiki section.

neat,ill c that now.
i tried searching 4 it with the author wacko and i was very surprised 2 find 2 posts only  ,and the tut was in the 2nd    .btw....i did c this one b4 a while ago (even more   ).but it doesnt explain sound_dooropen and close(not sure how they are written exactly) and lip !!!.

edit:i saw the wiki but it looks so confusing and i think its a bit empty 2,maybe because its still beta or i might be wrong .ill have a detailed look at it later (no im not feelin lazy this time ,im a bit busy  )

my "door tut" - if u wanted to call it that - is indeed rather "compact", because it is just trying to explain things that were asked every two days in the forum (the angles  ) and then it's just about func_rotatingdoors. imho, it should be in the tut section, but it isn't, so for now, it's just behind the lil door below...
door sounds are - i'd say - one step up and most ppl in most cases will be satisfied with doortype metal and doortype wooden, so I left that out. For those who need special sounds, a search in the forum will be more than helpful (Atleast once it is explained perfectly by Tltrude)
