Lighting problem

hello all

i m New in mapping and i m looking for a slotuion till one week LOL!
so maybe here you can help me :D

i m mapping for medal of honor breakthourgh. i encountred 2 rpoblem one with sky(1?) and othere with ground(2?)

-1?) i make a worlspawn (6 faces) texturing my ground with caulk and a floor texture and the 5 others faces are textured with caulksky and a sky texture(mohday1 for example) i add some value for worldsapwn suncolor
and ambientlight: and try with a lot other
so i compiled my map and when i tested in moh breakthourgh it wont work my map is dark from to ground no lighting!!!!!!!!but in moh allied assault it work perfectly good lighting and good texture ! what is the problem why it work on mohaa and no in moh breakthrough ?????

-2?)this time seeing that with sjy texture it dont work i decide to asdd new value on worldspan entity and dont texture it witj sky! so my worldspawn is always textured with a floor texture in ground but the others faces are only textures with caulk sky ! and i add this value key on entity box!

results my map is lighting with a type of fog thats sound well for me but I CANT SEE MY GROUND !!!!!!!! i can see it only if i down my head or crouch ==>i mean that my ground is not lighting enough or a fine layer of fog cover it

so how to make my ground seeyable PLZ HELP ME

Not sure if it helps, but use caulk on all surfaces that are not seen... not skycaulk. skycaulk is to be used instead of a skytexture. It will give the sky the exact same color of the farplane_color value.

Also, make sure that your paths are set to Breakthrough and and your preferneces are correct.

i did it before i textures all my worlspawn in caulk and applied a sky texture but it give the same results
so i replaced the caulk by caulk sky to give a farplane_color to my sky !!!!but the ground is not seeyable look my picutres in 3 different view

i get to daon my head to see my ground !!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks exactly like you are using

farplane 100

or something wery small like that

i m using farplane 5000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in worldspawn entity key= farplane
value=5000

but why i cant see my ground !!!!!!!!! i m with it till one week lol

i suppose u should reduce the farplane value a little ,on a 2nd thought u should reduce it alot.probably by takin 2 zeros of from the right side :wink:

You can make lots of things worldspawn so refer to your sky box as a sky box. You don't have to caulk it, just apply the sky u want, don't scale it.

But theres more going on in those pics than that!

try using farplane 3000
ambient light 40 40 40

never seen farplane_cull/2. Where did u get that, what does it and what happens to ur map if u set farplane_cull to 1?

with sky texture my map is dark !!!!!! in moh breakthrough but it work on mohaa!!!!!!!!!!! i see the sky texture and al is ok !!!!!!

farplane_cull 2 i saw it some official map moh breakthrough!!! tried to see if what it do but it seems i got the same pb always

sky texture ===> map dark
farplane and farplane color ===> too much fog in moh breakthrough but in mohaa its playable

so i dont know what is the pb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe a need a moh breathrough mapper to help me????????

How big is the brush on the ground ? If it is longer than the farplane it will look funny if it is , it will look like the farplane color on certain angles . Makeing it smaller brushes will work .

i made a brush 1000 by 1000 units and high 1024 but how it can solve my pb ?

how to modificate the farplane angle ?

Is the skybox sealed? Ambientlight is not working either. Your sky brushes should not have more than one texture.

Well you see in the pictures you posted that when you look straight down at the ground the ground looks ok but when you look at an angle it looks like the farplane color . That happens when the brush extends outside the farplane distance . The game is trying to add fog because part of the brush is outside the farplane distance . Maybe comment out the farplane if you did it in the script and see if that stops the problem . If it does remake the brush into several smaller brushes instead of just 1 .
