The brush with the black stuff on top, two things, either you didnt align the texture correctly or you didnt make all the faces EXCEPT the front of it NODRAW, 5 sides should be nodraw and the face you see (front) should have the foliage texture.

Use search and search for bushes, might be better than foliage ?
Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta:
"If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
The Spartan ephors sent back a one word reply: "If".

no draw is a texture found in textures/common

you use it for things that can be seen through usualy, only texturing one side. Aside from 'fencing' like foliage and fences and other border stuff yo uuse it for grills, grates, etc...

like jack said, you only texture ONE side of nodraw brushes. If you use it for a grill or walkway or anything that can be seen from two sides, you will we the texture on the one side of the brush, no matter where you are looking at it from. There are much better descriptions of no draw in other places on this board =)

oh jsut ot clarify... you texture the WHOLE brush as no draw, like you would with caulk, then you select one side of it for its 'real' texture.

if youdo not want to see through the foliage, you'd have to choose a foliage texture which is not masked. Or use two lines of foliage, a non-see-through one and a masked one in front of it.
The black line can also be caused by the texture itself, even if u textured all other faces with nodraw and even if u did fit texture to face. To avoid this, put and fit the tex onto the face, and then make the brush a bit lower.
