well the vga card is a little crappy but thats a very good pc,i have a p3 800mhz 128cache /256mbs sdram/built in sound/geforce 4 mx 440 64mbs,and it runs really great (it does freeze on more grafix games like gta :vc, but i doubt the problem is the pc ) .however the answer 4 ur question i still dont know as no one has replied on my question yet ....
after a few diggin around in the vaults and archives of the .map forums i found a link 2 a very useful tut (i consider it so anyways)its actually 3 pages long with detailed pics and seems 2 be very nice (i just looked thru it 4 a few mins ),i also found 2 other links i the same post but they seem 2 have been broken or there hosts have died
anyways here is the link 2 the tut http://fps.brainerd.net/hintbrushes.htmi suppose the hosting site is really useful 2 from the name but i have yet 2 check it out
here is the link 2 the post i was talkin about,so maybe u could do a search on those other tuts viewtopic.php?t=1936&highlight=window+broken
wierd enough i was searching 4 broken windows not hint brushes
but i thought it should be used here
maybe we shoudl make a sticky post with all those important links that help alot in mapping and which are not in the links section, specially when u lose ur favorites folder and all its bookmarks 2 a reformat or a dreaded VIRUS

vis
You should'nt just automattically add hint brushes to ever crooked hallway! Hint brushes add extra vis to the compile. The vis compile can do some of the work without your help!
What you need to learn is how to do "showtris 2" to debug your vis. Then, if you see where vis needs help, add hint, or areaportal, or vis_leafgroup.

Was reading a bit and came around this thread again, sorry for the bump but I just gotta correct something

Well it is not, it actually is 260 fps. However, most monitors currently available 'flicker' at a frequencies in the range from 80 to 160 Hz (probably your monitor has an 'info' button that shows it's current refresh rate) and hence your monitor can never display more than 80 to 160 frames per second. This is also the reason for the com_maxfps setting... the game simply caps the number of frames rendered per second to the number supplied with com_maxfps. As a result, your vid card won't have to work as hard as it can, which means less heat production and less power consumptioncrunch wrote:To be honest, as jv_map said, it is really for analytical purposes.
It won;t increase the true FPS that you are getting. Rather, it is more a ratio.
Instead of a scale of 0-100, you will acheive a scale of 0-300.
It just makes it easier to see the FPS difference in small increments.
What you see as 260 in that screen is really about 80 FPS.
hmmm!!!!let me get this straight ,if i increase the value of the com_maxfps
im putting more work on the video card which will do nothin 2 affect gameplay (or resolution) .so wouldnt that extra work and load on the vga's processor slow down the fps a little?in other words does com_maxfps have a negative effect on fps ?

Afternoon, M&M.
When the graphics are locked into updating at screen-refresh-rate, then your graphics card is actually sitting idle quite a bit.
With regards to gameplay:
Most game engines have their graphics and user-input (keyboard/mouse/etc) in separate threads. Thus, fps do not affect control feedback.
Also: if you're only getting 45 fps, then it doesn't matter whether you set com_maxfps to 1000 or not - you'd still only get 45 fps.
Cheers,

All you're doing is allowing the video card to work as fast as it can.M&M wrote:hmmm!!!!let me get this straight ,if i increase the value of the com_maxfps
