At Last ,its here -The Canyon Of Death V1.0 RELEASED

Post by M&M »

THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED FOR THE FINAL RELEASE
The map is finally complete and u can get it at the link below

The Canyon Of Death V1.0 (This Link is from my site at walagata.com)
The Canyon Of Death V1.0 (this link is from filefront.com ,map raider has accepted my map and is hosting it on file front 8-) )

Map Features
-it is a dm map 4 mohaa and it was tested on other expansions and works fine
-original theme was placed around a tdm game so its also playable that way
-supports ctf mode (capture the flag) in round based mode
-small map designed 4 quick action and great fun
-Pretty cool with 3-4 players for empty servers or friendly games
-minimum fps on high details detected was 50
-12 players would have a GREAT time on this map,but it also supports 16
-filesize:1mb exactly :D

Beeing an FPS freak, I really must say that 50 FPS in a bunker corridor looks a little low... you want some VIS tips?

I think the outside lighting is a little too bright ( but that may just be that you brightend the pics for posting ), but the map looks good with cool details :)

well thats the most annoying thing ,the whole map and i mean all of it from the underground areas :? .im looking into making vis optimizations there but im still not sure ,im getting help in a post on the mapping forums  feel free 2 post there cause i sure could use ur massive experience on fps

about lighting ,i did brighten up the screenies and added ambient light as 10 10 10 after i finished everything ,in other words this is the 1st time i test with ambient light, prolly gonna remove it but later .

Tell the truth, have you ever seen a tower with brick/flagstone crossbraces? Brick/flagstone is never used in that way, except in vertical or arch supports. The crossbraces are adding a lot of vis too. It might be better to make it a solid brick/flagstone tower with arch windows. The texture on the plane crash building looks weird (out of place) too.

The mountains could use a little rounding, or replacement with gensurf-like terrain brushes. Reducing the number of faces in the mountains will improve FPS a lot.

brick/flagstone crossbraces
what are those exactly ?
if ur talking about the tower textures ,then i will tell u i have rotated those texures 2 look more realistic but i don tthink thats what u were talking about .i might add a screenie 4 the new tower later.

i also think that 2 ,but i cant think how 2 correct it :? ,a tip here might be helpful

im planning 2 make them a little less steep and give them afew turns ,those were actually stole...... i mean borrowed from the community map that was never finished  .since this is my 1st map i havent yet aquired experience of making good terrain ,imo it looks terrible but i cant do anything about it because i dont know how  .might try 2 change it and c what comes up

Hehe like tltrude said the towers are poorly constructed... the diagonal 'beams' cannot bear any loads as the individual bricks would slide off almost instantly

I'd be happy to look at the beta and offer comments/criticism/suggestions. It's hard for me to just look at a few screenshots and be able to add constructive input; I'd need to play the level myself to really figure out what to say.

don't want to be too dunno what, but here are still faces with bad texturing... if u examined a wood beam, u'd see the fibers going the same direction as the length of that beam on all faces(here the limits of my english are reached  ).
