broadband speeds from a 56k - for $15 a year!

for htose who cannot yet get broadband or can't afford it, OnSpeed is a small program that doesn't require you to change your ISP (aol, etc.) but instead it jusdt compresses the internet files before sending them, thus producing 10x faster speeds, no new modem, just a small (very tiny, all it does is give a command to compress the files) download, no new ISP, the small app runs on the taskbar, you can switch off anytime, so it won't compress - it is excellent, i have it, and its only $15 a year! thats BroadBand's monthly cost!

anyway, the address is www.OnSpeed.com - no more complaining bout how u cant play online cos u can't get braodband lol, no more massive downloads!

just thought it was worth a big mention, its an excellent invention!

well,i have a 56kbs and ive been trying all sorts of programs like this.one that compresses files ,another that lowers the resolution of pics ,another ...... .and they do speed the connection somewhat but i dont think u can compare that 2 broadband or even isdn .a 56kbs modem is slow now matter what u do 2 it .when u play over the internet u dont send files u send data directly ,so how can that be compressed?.it might be speeding up web surfing (all programs i tried do that) but its surely not gonna speed up dloads or online playing .dloads are usually already compressed also so i dont think the program can do any more "speeding" on them.
u should know its not real when u c something like this

performance 5/5 ease of use 5/5 value 5/5 .all in all its a perfect program which is what they are saying .but nothing is perfect ,so when u c any program that has this kind of promoting u should know its not real (thats my opinion anyways)

Also make sure your ISP doesn't compress your data all ready are your paying an extra $2 a month for nothing. In my past I've had 2 narrowband providers and both offered 256 (4x) compression for free while only charging me $10 a month for the service. Worked pretty good for jpgs, gifs, etc on webpages but no much else. When downloading .exes and compressed files I never got any faster than 3-5k/second. But I could definately downloading images at a slightly quicker rate. It wouldn't do much for games either as alot of the data is raw or alreayd compressed and cannot be compressed further.

Unfortunately, like M&M said, this is still no where near broadband. Even if it did what it claimed (up to 10x faster!) that would still be not even a fourth of what cable connections offer. With the 10x claim (going by my old stats with my 56k modem) you could supposedly download at 50k/sec (seems VERY unrealistic to me), yesterday on my cable modem I was download at 500k/sec

I'm usually around 300k/second.

But the most important thing is that if it works for you... which it sounds like it does, $2 a month is a great investment! Download on!

what a coincidence .im did that just a few minutes ago b4 u posted

.as i said b4 no matter what u do a 56kbs speed isnt gonna be faster .what u can do is manage the speed u got (this is what the programs do) .disabling pictures would save up on bandwith but it would make 4 a lousy surfing experience unless ur viewing a text only ,but then again disabling images in a text only website isnt gonna make a difference

.i only use it when i want 2 view sites quickly without looking at pictures , ads or banners.wierd how the author of this post hasnt come back 2 defend the program .i thought he might have come back and tried 2 prove that it does more (i hope it does,but it cant

cable form comcst is onl 20 a month. prettty good. also u can threaten to leave their service whne they decide to raise it again, and they give u another 3 months of 20 dolla service. i been doin it for almost a year now lol.

im sure u could do the same with DSL. has anyone heard of that satelite internet thing, it looks intriguing actually.

I have before and it's SUPER expensive, like $500 set up fees. It's pretty fast and all but it would suck for online mp gaming, there is a half second or more of lag, which is fine for surfing the internet, but for gaming that would be very bad. Think about it, the signal has to go from your house to outer space, then back down to a recieving place, then to the destination server. Then your data must go back to the recieving/sending place, back up to a satellite then back down to you.

Also it would go out in a rainstorm/thunderstorm. We have satellite TV and is awesome but can go out in heavy rain. It has actually gotten MUCH better since the day. I remember when we had one of those huge dishes in our front yard and it had to rotate to recieve a signal and you had to wait for it to tune in. And then a light shower would knock it out...

ive been trying to get that somehow without the installation fees

however all my efforts have failed yet .... and my research into it has just begun .i dont know enough info to make it on my own but i know that a friend of a firend managed to get internet without paying anything .all he did was connect a "special cable" (unidentified as my 1st friend didnt know) from the pc to the reciever and he got downstream internet .

what are u talking about?all this happens in femto seconds

.not really but it happens so quickly as sat recievers are usually outfitted with FIBER OPTICS and the signal itseld travels at the speed of light so i dont think it should be slow .maybe the upstream factor is the only cause for bad gaming ,but if u manage to fix it (get sat upstream or combine sat downstream with dsl upstream ) u should be living a great life .
im realising now that this 56 modem i have is pushing me 2 the extremes of hope ,but i have no other thing to do with my current speed

also ,how could a rainstorm interfere with a sat connection?isnt the signal transformed into a form of light ?

Well your right about the fibre optics thing, downstream is not as bad as upstream but it travels around 30,000 to 40,000 (10,000 to 20,000 miles to outer space and back and then 10,000 to 20,000 miles on the ground) round trip I would think at the speed of light that would take roughly .15 seconds, light is fast but not instant. That would be if the entire distant is traveled in the vaccum of space, but really I'd say its around .2 to .25 seconds total then you got to factor in time spent in the satellite and the servers and such. Also the entire trip on ground may not be all through fibre optic cables...

The signals are a form of electromagentic energy, like light, but heavy rain would scatter the waves, much like a radar system detects rain or airplanes. The satellite signals would be usually radio waves. Some electromagentic waves can't travel though certain things very well, like light can't travel through a non-transparent solid object very well. X-ray's can't travel through lead. If you go through a tunnel you could lose the signal in your car's radio.

Sometimes it doesn't go out completely, just parts of the signal gets scrambled so you get parts of the screen frozen or major quality loss or funny sounds and pixelation...

Basicallly parts of the signal get lost en route
