i think we should make a beginner mappers thread, a sticky, cos the number of newbs (sorry i hate that term too, its just quicker to type) who will not put a info_player_start or light or will not know how to set up mbuilder... or we could justlink to the tuts... some ppl go straight to forums, so put that pst linking to tuts maybe? just a thought ;)

and this wasnt directed at this topic really, just the guy came straight to forums and bypased the main site tuts, so he was given links. he cudve gone to 'new mappers' thread straight away

To be honest m4rine, although the idea is a good one, it will be ineffective.
There are alreasy 2 similar posts that are stickies right here in the mapping section, Solving Your Problem... and Forum Rules...Read Before Posting.

Both of these posts contain info for new mappers, including links and the idea of using the search function.

They seem to not make a difference though, as it seems that most would rather ask a question than search for a pre-existing answer.

Which in a way is not that bad, since it keeps the forum active.

But I understand the annoyance of seeing the same q's over and over....but look at it this way.....we have been here long enough to see that happen, the new mappers have not.

yeah ,i did that ,i had the forum index bookmarked.i was never aware of the main page  until i clicked .map in the links thingy and it opened up .i think i spent about a month till i found it out ,i was wondering where are all those tuts u ppl were talking about  .the only way 2 fix it is to make the sidebar on the mainpage default 4 the rest of the site .that way wherever u go on this site ,u can always c the link 2 the tuts and other stuff.

we should make a locked sticky in all caps taht says "GO TO THE TUTORIALS SECTION FIRST"

i dont think that would work .as i said earlier i didnt know where it was 4 a month  .maybe put the link in the title if it is short enough?
but actually its kind of fun helping noobs .at least their problems are far more simpler and u can feel that ur helpful by helping them  .

no kiddin, since i can't really help anyone else out without them using my sig (huh? whazzat?)
and it's always good to know that MOHAA modding is still getting new members since i know a bunch of our best that have moved on to proffesional mapping (Random and Jack Ruby, off the top of my head)

weird, i've been mapping too long. :)
