What about a new forum for this contest thing? I think there will be a need for quite a lot of post that would flood the mapping board anyway...

I'm thinking of giving Axion full moderator rights and also allow him to add new members to a jury user group (who can moderate the board). You should be able to handle it from that point onwards :)

Wow, this has risen off the ground quickly!

Scronty, I like your idea. We could start off by doing smaller things to get a feel for the rules and how this will work, and then we could advance on to more complex themes/objects as time passes by.

Sounds like a cool idea, however I dont know how you could regulate it to be sure everyone is following the rules. But I guess as long as everyone is honest, there shouldnt be any probs. What about making the teams a random drawing for partners? I think that could be the only thing that would set the best apart from the rest. I dont know about anyone else, but I wouldnt want to be in a competition against a team with say, tltrude and wacko on the roster :D or any other combo of great mappers. Of course that's my lack of confidense coming out again.

I think the ones interested in doing this know fairly much which members here have increased mapping and scripting abilities just by the number of post they have made for all the helpful information. We could pair members up that way. That way you have an advanced mapper and a novice mapper paired up. Just an idea.

Yeah, I kind of like the ideas for teams....I think it would be much easier and much faster to get something done when you have like two minds workin on the same project. There could be solo projects and team projects...It'll sorta be like the "community maps" we have up right now except for only two people working on one map!

Yes. And each team could have a name like "Bravo Company" "Charlie Company" something like that to identify them with their map.

so far, i'm really liking it. and jv_map's idea of Axion being the moderator.

i think first we'd need a list of people who are interested in making a duo map. (pmming Axion or whoever would work, that way we wouldn't clog the thread) and their experience, they could just list their posts and how far in mapping/scripting they are, and whether they suck at mapping, or scripting, or have a preference, and draw straws. (kind of).

and everyone should be using the same version of MOHAA, like you can't use SH and some other team use BT. at least between scripting and mapping partners.

Excellent Idea, lizardkid!

I like the idea of posting preferences and skill. That would make things easier when selecting teams.

Even though "It's all for fun and fun for all" and all that's fair in "Love and War" LOL.

ur right

ur idea was posted: Thu Apr 01, 2004 9:58 pm
Bjarne BZR agreed on it and made the forum at: Fri Apr 02, 2004 12:50 pm (i presume)

i love this idea so much .it would allow a much more cooperative and competeitive mood around here at the same time.
im almost done with my map and would love 2 participate in something like that.

Goals

Post by tltrude »

I think the contest should have a goal, other than "who is the best mapper." The contestants should include the .map file at the end, so other people can learn from them, or use the new stuff as perfabs. Might as well make the contest fun and useful! Also, I think a week would be enough time (about 12 hours of work). That way, people working on other projects, can take a break, for about an hour a day, to work on their contest entry.

As for prizes, How about a special ".map Mapping winner of the Week award" signature logo. Or, an article and screenshot on .map's news page.

I also, think the .map staff should run the contest because voting on everything will not work!

i agree with the last post .also ,what happens if during the contest one of the team members decides to quit .he has a disagreement with one of the other members or he quits due to real life matters .what happens 2 the rest of his team?do they get disqualified or do they find a replacement or continue as is ?
