There are only 10 kinds of people in this world; those who know what binary is, and those who don't.

I'm doing my best to drum up an official draft of the rules and guidelines, so as soon as I can get that completed, I will have it posted here. Once that is done, we can begin with the first contest!

u know a map is better when u like it
and u know a map isnt good when u compare how much u've liked it with another map .
u like it when its fun to play, looks good ,and plays good .
maybe this should be the moto 4 the contest
anyways .maybe the groups or tems should work together to make map packs instead of just maps ,that way we can compare whole map packs and have several prizes
like
author of best map pack
author of best single map
so & so...

I like OpCenter a lot but snipers probably hate it...
Maybe a board w/ 2 snipers, 2 close-combat guys, 2 shotgunners, etc will work.
I told Axion I could help out in my little spare time. My guess would be there would have to be several judging categories:
Category I: A Technical Standpoint
a. performance (FPS)
b. Design (good VIS design, etc)
c. Brushwork (any overlaps, mitering, etc)
d. Texturing (self explanatory...)
e. Scenery (eye-candy...)
Category II: A Playability Standpoint
a. Sufficient cover
b. Sufficient offensive and defensive points (if it has obj's)
c. A good balance of snipering points, and areas for all weapons.
d. Balance for all weapons (not to many snipering areas or close range shotgunners)
e. Good for any number of players (so you can't get to crowded or spread too thin)
You would be scored out of 10 points in each sub-category and then you'd have a total of 100 points and thats your percentage. You could have several judges submit their scores and then average them together for the maps final score. You could then take the top 5 maps or 3 or whatever and do some more extensive testing and judging on it and resubmit their scores and find the top 2 or 3. Next you could do a vote on them, map with the most votes wins...
Just a thought...
EDIT: Also some other categories could be taking into account like:
Lighting
Flow
Overall fun
Originality
Scripting
I took a looksy at the reviews here at .map for these categories...
You could also do a weight system meaning some things may be worth more points based on their importance.
Also there could be several different leagues or whatever you want to call them like: Singleplayer, DM/TDM, OBJ, TOW, LIB, etc...

Yeah, I know.
I'm doing my best to get everything set up. I'm a college student and a swim/water polo coach, so I haven't had much spare time this week, but I am going to have something set up sometime this weekend.
After I have the first draft of the rules and everything posted, it will be open for revision and suggestions, so hang tight.
