A little off topic braggin'

Post by ziptie2k2 »

I recently had a old fat man's acheivement ( of which I qualify).

I bowled a 300 game. I dont know how many other bowlers there are out there, but I'm pretty proud of it, since it's damn hard thing to do.

And sorry if I'm too far off topic guys.

If I get over a 150, I do cartwheels.

Congratulations, a 300 is a very nice accomplishment.

Congrats! I've had 2, but it's been a few years. A guy in a league I bowled in 3 years ago had 2 in one night and an 812 series. He was 70 years old, so I still have time for that 800 series.

I had my first 300 at the end of a 598 series, so I don't talk about it much. I was trying out a new dull finish particle rosin ball. Took awhile to get used to it. I threw 14 gutter balls in the first 2 games. I never got close to 300 (or 598) again with that ball.

It's pretty cool. I didnt need a photo, cause ABC (American Bowling Congress) is sending a plaque and ring for my memories.

BTW I have averaged between 201-215 in league play for about 5 years now, and it is amazing what it takes to get a 300. I have had numerous 279 games which is only one pin off (although 21 in score) from being a 300.

And to Balr14, the best part of this game is I have purchased about 10 different balls since '92 when I bought my pirhana, and went back to the old girl for this year and I have achieved a perfect game with the oldest ball I have. lol Murphys law.

You have to be a "down and inner" to maintain that sort of consistency. I wish I could get back to 200. This is my second year back after a layoff and many years and the alleys have really changed, plus we changed houses this year, just when I was starting to get the feel of the old place. The new place is synthetic alleys that seem to dry out very fast and I'm a cranker with a reactive rosin ball I got for the old place with oiler lanes. Damn ball breaks 3 feet and bites really hard at the back-end with zero deflection. I took out the 1-3-5-8 without touching any other pins. Then, to prove it wasn't a fluke, I did it a second time in the same game. Then, I threw the ball in exactly the same spot on the second ball. Monster Frenzy is not the ball to use on dry lanes!

I bet there's a whole lot of people who have no idea what I'm talking about.

You bowl three games in a row, or something like that...

Yep, exactly. Every week you bowl three games against another team. The league I bowl in has 4 man teams. So the total of all three games is the "series" total.
You have to be a "down and inner" to maintain that sort of consistency.
Actually with the way the oil patterns change from week to week, I bowl a few different styles. Mostly I bowl somewhat a cranker style with about 12-18 boards of break. But sometimes with them oily I have to do the old man down and in. "depends on what's working" Our lanes are also synthetic, but they actually hold up better than wood. The reason for synthetic lanes breaking down fast is cheap ass oil. I would raise a stink with the alley and have them buy better oil. Our owner bowls himself so usually at the beginning of the season we have premium conditions which slowly fall off as the year goes, (cheap s.o.b.). The problem now days is you have a certain lane condition, and you go out and buy a ball to fit them, then they change oil (or pattern) and that ball you just spent a couple hundred bucks on is junk. Exactly the reason I went back to my old pihrana.
I took out the 1-3-5-8 without touching any other pins.
I have done this same chore a few times myself. You find yourself standing at the foul line drooling  wondering what the hell just happened.

I mainly bowl because I am getting old and this is one of the best ways to have a comrodary with my buds.
