map's entities gone

Post by lizardkid »

OMG!!!! :o  :o

i just opened up my map and found for the first time that there is no entites!!!!
iv put entities in as i went and had a million of them (exaggerating, about 70 really)
i have checked filters, they are on none.
i'v moved other pk3's but nothing relating to this. iv also changed compile paths but i haven't messed with the map in a while, do the map files corrupt?

anyone out there please help, this took days to get as it was.

filters

Post by tltrude »

Look at the very top of the editor window. If it says "- Filters: Ents" your map is ok. You just have entities filtered out in your View > Filter menu. If you hit the Alt + 2 keys, the entitiy filter will be turned off.

Error

Post by tltrude »

Well, if there are no filters on, your .map file has an error. You can open the .map file with Wordpad and try to repair/remove the bad text--entities are at the bottom of the page.

There are also times when even though Radiant shows filters-none, that a filter could be on. I have had this happen to me.

To really be sure, go to your filters menu, and click filters "all".....
If your entities then show up, you know that was the problem....If everything disappears, click "all" again, and see if your entites are back.

If they are not, then do as tltrude suggested and check for corruptions.

Check the brush count in radiant with the brush count in the map when you open it with notepad . If radiant says 300 brushes and you have 400 look at either brush 300 or brush 301 for the error .

ok, i just checked for entities in that little startup window and it says:

15 brushes (mostly it's one big LOD)
0 entities

would the filter blow my entity count too? iv no idea......

and i just now tried the filters and nothing happened, everything is still how it was.

ok, ill try Notepad next....... (walks away for a moment, gunshots fired, walks back)

yep, it now works. dont ask me why, i opened up the bsp and looked around, and closed it and it now works. :?

thanx for all your help guys, and sorry i didn't think of the bsp before.

The .bsp file is not what you see in radiant, it is the .map file. That is what you can open and modify with Notepad.
