Ok, I'm glad you pointed that out, that would be the most important one, and I forgot it

I think the pointing/grading system should be a bit different. Because some things are not as important as others! im just going to through an example out with random numbers...

Ex. Seeing as how scenery (eye-candy) is not as important as gameplay (who is actually going to go on a scenic tour in mid battle?), it should not diserve as much overall points. Scenery should have a max of 10 (random numbers) and Gameplay should have a max of 20. So that way the small stuff wont hurt your overall score that much.

The simplest way of getting that effect is to use a... say 0-10 scale on all map characteristics.
And then you wheight them.
The wheight tells you how important a characteristic is compared to the others, all the wheights add up to 100%.
Example:

Wheights:
Textures 20%
Architecture 30%
Gameplay 40%
Scripting 10%

Points for an imaginary map:
Textures 8
Architecture 5
Gameplay 5
Scripting 10

Resulting end score:
8 * 0.2
+
5 * 0.3
+
5 * 0.4
+
10 * 0.1
---------
6.1 ( out of 10... or 61% if you prefer that )

Ooh, Mr. Math eh? That's a very good idea, I think that would work rather nicely!

i was reading an article about how the mind works, and we are all actually more favorable to our own work even when we dont want to be. i dont think ppl who entered the competition should have a vote in the grade, and i also thing more than one judge should be named
There are only 10 kinds of people in this world; those who know what binary is, and those who don't.

I concur, even if you have a map in the competition you wouldn't be able to cast your score on your map but still be allowed to score others. of course I won't have any maps in the competition (if it ever gets going) I'd make a good judge...

pppf. i hate my maps but know they're good enough because ppl like the screenies.

i could point out to yu every single mistake i made with LOD terrain in the first Battle of Cote D'Azur level so far. and still hate it. even if it doesn't have mistakes it just will look crappy.

i'd love to judge sp maps, im better at those anyway, besides tdm.

I like to nitpick at the brush lay out, if there is a misplaced brush or its overlapped or the like I usually stop and get annoyed, then I get ripped to shreads admiring the misplaced brushes... :D

rofl, mapping is really an objective 'sport'. one person'l hate a map and another will love it.
i hate mine but put up with them to finish them. then ill be proud of them later.

I always think my maps suck until someone says that it is good.

Btw, what does 'rofl' mean, sorry but I'm not up on these type of things, I hate when short words get abrv. Phrases are OK, like btw but not when you use 2,4,r,u, et cetera. lol
