Stalingrad 1943 teaser

Post by Bjarne BZR »

I do like to tease :)

Here are some pics of a new version of the old exelent map "Stalingrad 1942".
- I've added more stuff for cover to remove the sniper domination.
- I made it an objective map, with the ammo crates randomly placed in the bombed out factory.
- I've boosted the FPS quite a bit.
- I removed lots of errors.

So hree we go ( klick the thumbs to see the full screenshots) :

(thud) [Random's head hits the floor]

Shakes head and comes to. Ok i cant explain why but i like this map. First time i saw the original i didnt vote to add it to the server and one week later i said you know what... this map is fun! Im glad we did add it. Like the way it played land fps wasnt bad. Although it wasnt the most appealing map asthetically but how attractive can you make a bombed out city look?

Then i see this.........Wow budy all i can say is wow.

Played the old version, so will try this one too, but isn't it a bit dark at some spots?

It is a bit dark in the objective room... but not as dark as the pictures say. I didnt brighten the pics, I just sharped them a bit, so I guess that is why...

Actually, this one is a bit lighter than tha last version.... I increased ambientlight from 5 5 5 to 7 7 7 ( if I remember correctly ).

B.t.w. Its done. But the upload to the FFisON FTP seems to have gone wrong... So you wont be able to try it until tomorrow.... This IS a teaser thread ;)

Oh sweet, I wish Drecks still mapped for SH, he moved on too COD. He was a friend of mine and I'm glad to see his maps are still alive.

It might be a little dark... But darkness seems to be, after all, the idea... And what can be more scary than being out there, in the dark and surrounded by many obscure shadows trying to kill you...?

I've got to say... I like the whole concept of it... The idea of real "night-time fighting" works great when you start to see guns firing and explotions going off all around the place... And all that without thinking that, in fact, by being in all that darkness you make yourself a walking target the moment you open fire and everyone can see you muzzle flash from over a mile of distance... As Random said, it might not be that aesthetically appealing for the eye, but it works great in terms of playability...

And, being a newbie at mapping as I am (and retarded when it comes to scripting...), I didn't know you could set random positions for your objectives... So I don't have anything but a full standing ovation on that one...

Bjarne, you'll have to take a bow now... Cause around here we've never played maps with objectives on random positions before... Absolutely new concept for us... ?Guys are throwing roses at your avatar here and talking about starting a new religion, Bjarneism...!

Eh... remember an objective map called "The Hunt"?
( hint: random objective position )
;)

Actually I've made an improved version with more light, and better gameplay flow...
Here is a link to another forum with downloads
( New version of Canal there as well. And a new version of TopTigers Pipeline coming in a day or two )
