In my search for more textures i found myself upset that i could not view and open .dds files. so i made it my mission to sort this obstickle out.

goto this link and you will find plugins for xp to allow you to view .dds files as thumbnails. Aslo at the same link there are plugins for photoshop and paintshop that allow you to open and change the format of the files to anything you want to. just a little hint here, when opening the a .dds file in photoshop it will ask you if you wish to display the MIP maps with the image.....select no...and now you can convert the image.
no doubt there is a tutorial for just this very thing somewhere on thie site....but hope it still helps
