Ai machine gunners won't shoot at me...

I'm having an AI issue...

my mg 42 guys will not shoot at me. I can walk up and stare down the barrel of their gun and nothing happens. He just makes a clicking sound, as if he's out of ammo. However, when i off him and use it my self, it seems to work fine.

all my other AI seem to have no problem drilling me, so it strikes me as odd that my MG boys have turned pacifist.

Anyone know what i can do to instill a fighting spirit?
