Reichstag Project (Work in Progress)

Post by [ARGW] Tenebris »

?Cool...! ?An All-About-My-Ego forum...! Just what I been needing to boost my self-esteem...

Na... I'm pretty new at this mapping-thing, and I liked the idea of getting the opinions of true experts...

Sorry for the size of pictures and the way they're posted, but i'm on a 56k and this images haven't been made specially for this forum... Just a few already-published screenshot of the first test-compilation made that I've been autorized to post, since my Hosting Clan pretends to keep this Proyect Map, called "Reichstag", in a high-secrecy, almost TOP SECRET level...

Hope you like this "Work in Progress" preview... And I don't care about bad critics... Just say what you think now, when I'm still in a position to make the necesary changes and adjustments...

(And, I know... Thumbs are a little larger than ideal... Will try better next time...)

why do you have sanbags in the middle of a mansion floor? it doesnt really fit, i would put a table flipped over instead, or take it out entirely. is this for AA?

Well, thank you all... (I was expecting some heavy "that looks like s**t", so I feel like a burden was taken off my back now...)

About the Sandbags... We did a little research about the Battle of Berlin and the russian attack on the Reichstag... And, ok, if you overlook the fact that this is gonna be for Allied Assault, and it's gonna be allies attacking instead of russian, it seems that on the days before the attack, the germans prepared the building, expecting the offensive, turning it into a fortress by closing windows and entrances with brick wall (as you can see on some screenshots), setting up all kinds of traps, building concrete walls inside the building to use as cover (not yet implemented on the map) and, yes, sandbags... Good looking decoration was not in the "to do" list that week...

Anyways, we're not "realism-fans" either... Since we messed history up from the beginning with allies attacking instead of russians, "realism" is now a very flexible concept... Right now, we're trashing the real blueprints of the bunker under the Reichstag and applying, instead, Hitler's bunker blueprints...

The staircase may look a little bit like the one in Remagen... But that's not thieving... We prefer to think that we're "paying homage" to the guys at 2015...

Na... To be honest, I've never thought of that... What can I say? I'm no architect and, when it came to make those four lateral doors accesible, the "U-shaped" staircase was the first idea... Maybe I'll think of something more original in the future...

Again, thanks to all of you for the ego-boost and the motivation to keep on going...

Kaioty, don't worry about sounding "offensive" or anything... We can take it... Na, actually, your critics were very well received, that's way I've went on explaining our "realism" concept... Something may be accurate and STILL look awful... Your comment was noted and will consider what to do with those sandbags in the future...

And we thought about "taking in loan" soviet models from BH and even COD... But I'm a little concerned about the final size of the map... Those screenshots don't show much, but we're calculating that the final pk3 will be somewhere between 12 and 15 megs in size... With the addition of also those models, wouldn't it make the final version uncompromisingly huge...?

is it possible to put the model pk3's in a different pk3? i'd personally be willing to copy/paste my SH soviet models and guns to you guys for the project.

if the map itself is going to be that big i suggest using multiple levels, like reichstad1.bsp and reichstad2.bsp. it worked in the stock maps.

That dont look like a beginners map to me, its very pretty, good job :)
Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta:
"If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
The Spartan ephors sent back a one word reply: "If".
