jeep speed

Post by lizardkid »

is it possible for me to change the level.slowspeed to the level.fastspeed of a jeep?

situation:
i have level.slowspeed going up a hill, then i want it to level out, which it does, and the jeep to hit the fastspeed going along the level area.
and is it possible to have a level.mediumspeed? :?

level.slowspeed or level.fastspeed are just variables. You can use even level.lizard, doesn't matter. It dependes on what you're "attaching" to this variable.

Are u using splinepaths for the jeep? You can use key: speed value: 0.5 it suppose to work. I heard that the distance between the splinepaths influences in the speed, dunno.

level.fastspeed

search for "level.fastspeed", in the script you are using as a guide, to find out what it is set at and where in the script it is set. If you are using a global script, then that is the one to search.

i'm just using the 'mountable jeep' tut right now, i've so far been able to change which speed the jeep starts at (level.slow/level.fast) but have never been able to switch between any of them. but i want it to hit a certain waypoint and speed up. and no, im currently using vehiclepoints.

btw thanx Krane, i wasn't sure if i could make my own speed name.

I don't know about the jeep tut, but it's probably using a global script, like tltrude said. In this case, you should keep the name "level.fastspeed". But if u make your own scrit, use whatever name you want, as long as you "get" it later...

The two speed in .map's jeep tutorial script are set right at the top. But, those speeds are used by the "global/vehicle_thinker.scr" script. To add a new speed, you would have to make your own version of that script (global/lizardkid_jeep.scr).

But, as Krane said, you can set speed right in the properties of the vehiclewaypoints.

Key: speed
Value: 200

However, you should add extra nodes for your speed changes. Don't leave out a speedup or slowdown commands because doing that skips the gear change animations and sounds. IF your new node is within the "lookahead" range, the jeep will start to speed up to your new speed setting before it gets to it.
