i wrote:this happens only when i run the stalingrad map (and a few others) but it does work with the rest
this map is stalingrad (mohdm6) !!!!! this means that pak# files are corrupt which iosnt right cause i copied it of another computer and it works fine on the other pc :?
some other custom maps give a similar error  .
but the rest work fine ,other than that it usually crashes while loading any map randomely .or just freezes while loading .

BUMP POST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by M&M »

AAARRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!
im going mad
this pc is doing it .
i reinstalled windows ,replaced mohaa and some bugs have gone (the specific map loading bugs) BUT STILL IT ISNT WORKING .

the mohaa keeps crashing while loading for no aparent reason .sometimes giving an illegal operation error with programs like these (kernel.exe ,nvopengl.exe ,mohaa.exe )
ive now resinalled windows for 7 times (a reformat everytime)
i think it would also be helpful to know that sometimes (not often) the pc crashes by itself without any other "extra application" running .

edit:
forgot to mention it works sometimes .but it is impossible for it not 2 crash after several rounds .

Afternoon, M&M.

You may have a few sectors on your HDD corrupted (even the HDD you replaced).

Run Scandisk.exe to see if that's the problem.

I used to get random errors like you're getting with MS Excel. Found out the excel.exe file was spread over a corrupted sector and once that sector was designated 'bad', I reinstalled Excel and had no more problems (until a few months later when the OS page file started being written on some more corrupted sectors ;) ).

Of course...
Once you start getting corrupt sectors it's time to purchase a new hardrive :P .

Cheers,
Scronty

well,a bad sector is the 1st thing i checked .specially since winme started in scandisk with the through option selected .so i inserted a system disk ,and run a scandisk from dos (faster + more efficient imo) .but no bad sectors were detected .
i tried scandisk'ing alot but there arent any bad sectors
i tried using norton disk doctor but still no bad sectors .
however i have the terrible sensation that its the harddrive causing all this .although its fairly new (still in the 1 year gaurantee) .
also it emits this very wierd sound :? its not very loud but as far as i know a hdd shouldnt be making such sounds (not the normal poweron sound) .it also gets very very hot by time ,im not sure if this is the reason .but usually when i find the comp crashing alot ,the hdd is very hot.but sometimes it also crashes when it isnt so hot :? :?

however ,the rate of crashes have gone down for now (i can open mohaa for a longer time) .but this just sux

btw ,when i am using the net on that pc ,i usually get an IE.exe illegal operation error .why is that and how 2 fix?

this is getting on my nerves !!!!!
i cant solve it no matter what i do
this is freakin annoying :x :x   :x

the computer has died again today ,meaning that windows has breathed its last breath and now i gotta reinstall .
i have eliminated all the posibilities that could happen to a computer .im left with only 2 wild theories

1-since the 3 pci slots (there is only 3) are full .maybe there is a clash between IRQ settings (which i doubt very much)

2-its a bios problem and a bios update should solve it .but unfortunatly it seems that the manufactor company has forgotten about these motherboards (asus pentium 3) .i tried thier site but i couldnt find anything short of pentium 4 . if any1 finds a site that houses these old bioses plz tell me.

note:
ive noticed that this computer even does some wierd stuff on dos mode also .some of the files on the windows cd seem to be corrupt while running them on that cursed pc .but works on other comps !!!! i tried installing win xp the other day and i got alot of errors in a few files .
so i tried pluging the same cdrom and harddrive in another comp and ran the same cd and viola .windows xp is now on the drive !! :?
so what could cause a comp to misread some data other than a bad sector (and a bios ,since i already mentioned it) ?

Try replacing the cables with ones from a working computer, sounds like a cable is defective or something. :?

EUREKA !!!

Post by M&M »

FINALLY !!!! ive struck gold .ive found what the problem was !!
it seems that the ram i installed to the comp was faulty somehow and it causes all that chaois .now it makes sense ,the rams are faulty ,so when some data is sent to the ram ,the computer has a hard time reading it and gives alot of erros !!!! thats y alot of files were reported to be corrupt after installation .

although i had the keen sensation that this ram chip was the problem(since a few problems starting appearing one by one after i installed it) ,i couldnt think how it could affect it .until today when another comp's ram was spoiled (dunno how) ,i tried putting the other ram from the cursed comp and the same pattern of errors started appearing .i put a different chip and viola ,everything is working like dandy

finally i can have a good nights' sleep ,this problem has been troubling me so much .now all i need to do is find the jerk who sold me this chip and kick his ass (after replacing the ram ofcourse) !!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Good for you :D Ram can be a funny demon to deal with, cuase it often times doesnt report bad at boot up even when it is. It is also one of the last things I think of  which usually is the cause of all the frustration. :D :D Well good gaming to you.
I once was lost, but now........... I'm still lost!

well,it was directly after i added the ram that it started showing problems .but i dismessed these problems as caused by hdd since the hdd on that comp then was an old one with alot of bad sectors (6 gb hdd) .
i upgraded the drive and got myself a new 40gb drive and everything seemed to improve momentarily .its because all these problems didnt appear at once ,i didnt think they were ram related .they appeared one by one .
i always thought if a ram doesnt work ,than the comp wouldnt boot up ,but i guess i was wrong !!
at least i found out the problem b4 doing something really dangerous like flashing the bios !! i couldnt find a suitable bios so i was about to replace the bios with an unknown version that probably wouldnt work
