hey mj, even so, if that's true you can only improve with practice. we were all there one day. dont be too hard on yourself.
start out with something simple, don't go for the san francisco bridge jsut yet.

My entry is definitely going to be quite useless as my missus is home sick so I cannot spend as much (any) time on the computer as I'd intended

I'm still in the contest however. It's just that my entry (once I've thought up what to make) will have to be built on Wednesday morning (when she's finally back at work)
