Need help

Post by Micky2003 »

I only just started making my own map. I was reading through the tutorial on how to make ur map into a pk3, It states to put all the files for ur map in ur map, ui, textures folders, My question is how do i know what files i need to put in there? I've had a look for them but all i see is .bsp & .map

btw gr8 job on the tutorials, I've found them very usefull indeed

since you said your new, i'm gessing this map has no custom textures or loading screen?

The answer! If you only have a .bsp and .map, you only need to put in the .bsp file into the "maps" folder in your pk3, then it should work.

If it dont, just post again

well,u dont need to make a pk3 if ur just testing the map ,but its useful to use pk3 when releasing .specially if u have alot of files (textures ,scripts ,shaders ....etc) .a pk3 is just a .zip version of the main folder with a different extension .if u rename it 2 .zip u can extract it

You can only add one function to a brush, so you will have to delete the Func. - Door brush an replace it with a new one and make it Func. - Rotating Door to start with.

We were all noobs once

Get pakscape, It makes pk3's, and there is a packscape tutorial on this site somewhere!

Actually you can zip it and change the end, but! you have to make a folder named Maps, then a folder name DM inside your maps file, and put your Bsp in there, then zip the whole thing and change the end.

If it dont work just post!

Also when you rename it, you may have to create an extension association, or you may get: mypk3.pk3.zip

well,i didnt understand what blue said in the last post .but i know what he wants to say .
instead of renaming it ,just make sure u put .pk3 in the name while zipping it .
it will automatically come out as name.pk3

What I mean by an association is when you double click a file, what program is used to open it. If it is unknown it may not do it right, like when I first started I went to save a script as mymap.scr and got mymap.scr.txt (actually it said it was a screensaver, but that's the idea). If you rename it after saving it as .zip (and you aren't hiding extensions, you can rename it with a new exetension.
