ok... ive made my first map and i put in a grass texture for the overall walking surface... but when i compile the maps and play in them the grass texture dissapears completly... so when u step outside u walk into a abyss

Is all of this surrounded by a skybox?

yes...
it all is but when i play in the map i can see the whole skybox and the bottom.... no grass

Are you on top of where the grass should be?

Is it a solid brush or LOD terrain? You might try a different grass texture.

ok it worked now but i added ambient light..... and when i compile it stops

It hangs at 51% and doesnt finish.. what should i do

It aways hangs there for a while, just let it run. Your .bsp file is already made, but the light will look bad if you don't finsh the light compile.
